In case anyone questions why I was so wimpy on the Prowler today, I have many reasons/excuses ready:
- mowed the yard yesterday and rode bike with my 13 year old
- don't want to interfere with my DL's tomorrow
- only got 10 hours of sleep last night
- avoiding skin cancer risk
- cutting weight
- don't want to get in too good of shape
- lazy
Deadlifts have priority. Instead of GPP yesterday, I took a nap.

Deadlifts were a grind today, no doubt. On my 405 set, did 1 rep and hands couldn't take it anymore so used straps for rest of reps. My callouses have been getting bad last few weeks with all the volume and I have shaved them, filed them, and using a heavy lotion. It occurred to me today that grip strength is not the point of this workout and need to get hands back in shape before competition. But, seems like I have a tendency to get out over the bar too much with the straps.
Regardless, another big day of volume for the DL. Jordan and I have conferred and have plan leading into the meet. Did some more bike riding yesterday with my 13 year old and weighed in at 221.5 this morning with 9 hours sleep last night.
Wasn't there a thread or perhaps a conversation with Rip recently about hand lotion actually preventing the adaptation of the skin?
Rip told me that he doesn't really have problems with callouses. I also know he uses a lotion but not saying the two are related. I think he uses the lotion for the same reason I do - chapping and cracking of skin separate from the callous issue. I kind of juxtaposed the two. I'm having some cracking on my fingers in addition to the callous issue.
I have had callouses for a long time but never gave me any problem until I started doing a lot more volume at heavy'ish weights.
