Mary's training log
Hi guys,
My name is Mary Peck. I am a competitive Olympic Weightlifter and lift out of Sacramento under Starting Strength coach, Tom DiStasio. I compete in the 63kg class and have been lifting for 3 years. My best lifts in training: Snatch- 94kg, Clean & Jerk- 113kg, Total- 206kg. My best lifts in competition: Snatch- 90kg, Clean & Jerk- 112kg, Total- 202kg.
I recently competed at the Arnold Weightlifting Championships in Columbus, Ohio and went 90kg/112kg for a 202kg total (at the time these were also my best lifts in training). This performance put me at #3 in the U.S. Our main goal for the Arnold's was to make weights. In light of my performance at the Arnold's, we decided to compete at the Regional Championships on May 2nd, the last chance qualifier for the Pan Am Games. I unfortunately was injured a week before the competition and had to pull out. I am now sitting at #4 and not on the Pan Am Game team (the top 3 females make the trip to Toronto).
I injured my hip and my MRI results go as follows:
-Moderate grade, partial-thickness tear of the direct head of the rectus femoris tendon at the anterior inferior iliac spine.
-Grade 1 muscle strain of the RIGHT iliopsoas muscle.
I was attempting a 114kg Clean & Jerk and tore my tendon in the catch of that Clean. I felt a pop. I met with a hip surgeon last Wednesday and was told that it would take 10-12 weeks for my hip to fully heal from the injury date (4/24), as long as I don't do anything that would irritate it any further.
I am writing this forum because I was inspired by Adam Skillin's log about his hip recovery process (we have a fairly similar injury). My coach has decided that (like Adam) we follow the Starr rehab protocol while trying to get back into the Olympic lifts and strengthening my upper body. I will be logging all of my training and progress here. I hope to inspire someone else like Adam inspired me!
Also, I wanted to thank Rip and Dr. Petrizzo for the help and advice you gave Tom with handling my injury!
Hope you all enjoy!!!

Glad you're on the forum Mary! Sorry about your injury though - one of the valleys along the lifting journey/process/obsession/life. You've got a great coach and access to exceptionally intelligent minds here. You'll make a big comeback!
