Meant to do a backoff bench and load chins to start LP-ing them. But i've had a terrible week of sleep and almost didn't even lift today. Then I just kind of randomly thought to myself this is what guys with wives/kids/more responsibilities than me do regularly so I should just suck it up and lift. Should be back normal and rested next week. And tomorrow.

Was supposed to pull heavy on Tuesday but I was so sleep deprived I did volume instead by accident. So I did a second VD today. Oh well. Back on track with that next week. Squats didn't feel or look great. 3 more lbs to go on this cut. Ready to be done with it.

Glad to see things progressing back up. Sorry if I missed it, but when did you switch to a 5x5 deadlift day and what was the rationale?

I would assume in general a switch from the initial one top set of deads on Texas method is made when progress with the top set approach stalls? What influences the approach after the deadlift stall - for example, why would someone do a volume/ intensity day versus rotating rack pulls and haltings versus perhaps a backoff set or separate day with something like SLDLs? (I think these are some of the things I've seen folks doing, but could be wrong)

On a separate note,my schedule over next two weeks will have me training later than usual so might be able to finally train at the same time as you guys.

    Thanks

    Jim

Nice - that would be awesome to have all of us lifting at the same time. Hope schedules coincide!

Rationale for adding DL volume just goes back to our criteria for strength training. I choose to just do extra DL rather than rack pulls/haltings/other assistance because DL use a shit ton of muscle mass over a long range of motion, loaded heavy. Plus me and deadlifts have a good relationship at the moment and I enjoy doing a lot of them. I plan to keep the VD% rather low as to not overtrain them. Will see how it goes

    Bench ID: 230x5, 205x7
    Press VD: [115, 125, 135, 125]x5
    Chins: BWx8x3

Finally back to a traditional 4 day split this week. Although I will still LP Squats until the end of January then begin VD/ID in February.

    Squat: [270,290,310]x5
    PC: 155x3
    DL: 410x5

Squats slowing down a bit. I've added belt and wraps back in. Time for knee sleeves on Friday.
PC didn't feel good and I just wasn't feeling like pushing it today so cut it at 155.
DL, while not filmed, was pretty slow.

Due to the above information I am ending this weight cutting nonsense. No more gainz shall be sacrificed. I proved to myself I can lose the weight when necessary, and I know how to gain weight back more slowly this time around. I'll cut again after the Meet. I may not make 231 but that's ok. I'm not setting any records anyway. Time to get back in the groove

Press was hard. Good thing I'm going to start eating more. I'll get better about filming when some of the New Years traffic in the gym dies down. Its kind of a madhouse right now.
Building towards 5x5 sets across in bench. I think I'll do 5x5 with everything except squat which will be ramping on VD.
Chins - I'd like to get to 3x10 before weighting them. We'll see

Filmed squats from the side to get a look at a few things. Knee slide is minimal but its still there. Seems like the bar travels forward of midfoot a bit during the reps. It seems like I need to get my knees in place sooner and also lean over more. But whenever I try to do this it doesn't work. Although maybe that's extreme to say because it has improved over the last 6 months from what it was. Any thoughts/opinions/cues are welcome

I sat down and planned out my training cycle a bit today based on Meet goals. My conclusion was that bulking season is to begin immediately. Milk has been bought.

Decided on staying with 5x5 sets across for volume. It worked for me last cycle so I'll stick with it until it doesn't. I'm thinking I may have to start doing ramping sets on volume day 4-6 weeks out but who knows. I will be gaining weight of course so maybe I can survive the brutality? We'll see I guess. DL felt better this week than last. Started to lose the grip a bit, which has never happened before. Hopefully that's a one off.
