Thanks Cole, and yes February is stupid, especially for a National event in the frozen north!

Week 11 Day 3 - Feeling better today despite not getting much sleep last night. Our dog was going nuts at 2:30am as there must have been something outside. My neighbot spotted a cougar a couple days ago in a tree by the river in his back yard so maybe he's hanging around the area. I let Loki out because he takes his job defending our property very seriously (LGD), tried calling him in a bit later but he was still barking in the distance, then tried again 15 minutes later and finally he came.

That and worrying about a rat problem - Changing the oil on my wife's 4Runner I noticed that rats were chewing up the firewall insulation. So I set out some rat poison last night too. Mixed baking soda and corn meal 50/50 - Apparently rats can't burp or fart so when the baking soda hits their gut it swells from hitting the acid and makes CO2, causing the rat's organs and lungs to stop working due to the buildup of pressure in their expanding gut. I noticed most of it was gone today so hope it kills them all. I already had to change the wiring harness once on the 4Runner because Toyota makes the wire insulation from a soy based material that rats will eat if they are hungry enough.

Deadlifts - Worked up to 500 for a triple - Last heavy deadlifts until my meet 13 days from now. Will do some lighter weights next week, maybe 350 or so for a couple sets of quick reps

    Slingshot bench
Warmed up to 150/330 - then added slingshot
    170/375-1
182.5kg/402lb-1 - Was going to just do 180kg but did the math and my monkey brain said you're close to 400 so make it 400. I listened and hoped nothing would break LOL. Not sure what I will do next week yet.

May do some treadmill after dinner. I've got 5 pounds to cut to make weight.

Forgot to post this Saturday - I'm pushing out bench until later today (not Monday as stated below) as I needed another day's rest.

Week 11 Day 4 - Nationals is 11 days out now. This is my last heavy squat day with near maximal weights. Probably a good thing as I seem to be losing strength and gaining fatigue. Monday will be my last heavy bench day too. Wednesday will be some light deadlifts, Friday I'll do a few squat singles in the 80% 1RM range or maybe even lighter, then Saturday some 80% bench singles for speed. Sunday I fly out. My youngest son competes Monday and then me Wednesday.

Squats - Was going to shoot for 230kg today but 220 just moved too slow. Weaker than last week so need to drop fatigue now.

    Spoto Bench
150kg/330lb-3,3, - Same as squats, fatigued and feeling heavier than they should have.

Leg press - Felt I needed some additional leg work and stimulus.
610lb-5 - PR - This is the most I've ever done so something positive today.

8 days out - Only did bench today. I will do 1 more heavy bench singles session with my opener (155-160kg) on Friday or Saturday, light deadlifts tomorrow or Thursday, then squats (may work up to my opener) the same day I bench.

You'd think by now I would have a bench groove all worked out and be somewhat consistant. Nope - With 165kg I got out of the groove and near dropped it on my chest. Then had to press it up after losing all tightness and from a different start point. I was thinking of trying 170 but decided to back off and do a couple doubles with 155 instead.

    5 Days out from meet

Squat - Worked up to what I thought would be my opener. Went slower than I would have liked so may drop 5kg.I'll see how I feel on the day of the comp. My left knee is near 100%, my right knee and hip still hurt. I'll take some Ibuprofin the day of the comp to help with that.

4 days out from Nationals - This morning I was 1kg over my maximum meet weigh-in weight. I've dropped 5 pounds in the last week or so, doing cardio on my treadmill and walking after every meal. I feel a bit weaker even though it probably was mostly fat

I'll go easy on the food for the next couple of days, then skip dinner the night before. I weigh in Wednesday at 1pm so I'll have all morning to drop any weight I'll need to prior to weigh-ins.

Today was my last bit of workout prior to the meet. I fly out tomorrow morning with my son who lifts Monday. He'll fly back home Monday night so he'll only miss a day of school. I'll be coaching/handling him for his event.

    Thanks guys,

I competed today in the under 105kg masters 3 (60 years+) class at Canadian Nationals. Weighed in at 103.78 and cut around 3 KG's over the last couple days. As a result of the cut I had some issues with cramping in my calves, even when pulling my knee sleeves on.

    Squat
Opened at 210kg - lost my groove a bit and made it look harder than it was but still got white lights
second - 220 went much better
third - 230kg/507lb went the smoothest of all. Probably had another 5kg in me. Still, I'm happy with a 500lb+ squat anytime.
Another competitor and friend bumped the Canadian record to 237.5kg from 235.

Bench - During my warmup at 145kg my right calf spasmed hard. I had to lay on the floor for a minute to unspasm. Another coach gave me some salt which helped almost immediately, but still had some concerns going into my first lift.
    First - opened at 160kg
Second - 166kg/366lb bumped the Canadian record up by 1kg.
Third - 168.5kg - No lift, failed partway up- disappointed as I was hoping for 170+ this meet but just didn't bring it today. I peaked my bench 2 or 3 weeks ago so will have to review my log to see where i went wrong.

    Deadlift - warmups felt good
    Opener - 230kg - went easy
Second - 245kg - With this I broke the Canadian total record at 641kg which I previously held at 640kg.
Third - 251kg/553lb - With this I broke the Canadian deadlift record by 1kg which I held previously at 250kg, and increased the total record by 6kg to 646kg/1424lbs.

All in all pretty happy with the meet. These are all meet PR's for me at the M3 105kg level. Glad it's over though! I'm going to take a week or two away from lifting now and let my body heal.
