This is my last heavy training session before attending the Starting Strength Seminar in Houston next weekend! I started off my linear progression on September 16, 2016 squatting 370x5x3 at a body weight of 203 lbs. On February 1, 2017 I squatted 490x5x3 at a body weight of 232 lbs. The numbers speak for themselves. This program works and I am really looking forward to learning more about it at the seminar.

Bill Starr's Big 3 Contest Prep Circuit:
A. Squat 135x5, 275x5, 405x5
B. Bench 135x5, 185x5, 225x5
C. Power Clean 135x5x3
BW 233.3
I decided to do Bill Starr's Big Three Contest Prep Circuit as detailed in his book Defying Gravity. I decided to try it out today for two reasons: One, I want to lift well at the seminar this weekend. Two, I plan on doing this workout on my final training session before competing in the 2017 Starting Strength Challenge. I had to go downtown to the SAFD Health and Wellness Center gym in order to do the workout effectively (I needed 3 bars). I completed all of the sets in less than 15 minutes. Anyone that says that the program doesn't build aerobic work capacity or make you "fire ground ready" is welcome to do the workout posted above.

The Starting Strength Seminar in Houston was awesome. Rip's lectures on moment arms and how he constructed the technique models for the barbell lifts were great. Just being coached by highly qualified Starting Strength Coaches on all 5 lifts made it worth the trip. I'm going to continue to study the material and to find people to coach in the lifts because teaching a subject is the best way to become an expert in that subject.

Rip ruined Olympic weightlifting for me. I used to enjoy watching hook grip and Cal Strength videos on the Youtube, but now all I can see is inefficient pulls. I now get frustrated with each lifter that gets stapled because they didn't meet the bar and relaxed in the bottom position of the clean. I can't understand why most people who support the high bar squat like to point to the success that Chinese lifters have had utilizing that movement, when I suspect that due to the length of their levers, the average Chinese weightlifter's high bar squat is not too different from what their low bar squat would look like. The Chinese also do bodybuilding and deadlifts. Meanwhile, Americans are trying to train like Bulgarians. I'm just going to keep my head down and keep getting strong(er).
