    Howdy!

I'm Brian. I'm 33 y/o, 5'9", and hover in the low 190's for now. I've signed up for my first meet, on May 5, which will be the Missouri State Championships for USAPL, in the 93kg/205 class, because cutting weight for a first meet is stupid. I have no illusions about how well I'll match against fellow lifters; I won't. Instead, like all first meets, my goals are much more about myself than any external thing.

The goals are to 1) show up 2) go 9 for 9 and 3) have fun. The more tangible goals are to be ever more consistent with my training schedule, creep b/w up to 199-200, hit PRs on all the lifts, and snag my first 1000 pound total, which will almost require my first 400+ pull. In the last 7 weeks, I had 21 sessions scheduled, and made 19 of them, so I'm aiming for better than 90%. Last week, I had a convenient set of tapering circumstances, and took out a heavy single in each lift. Since I train by myself, I wasn't going to take true, no-shit, bone on bone guesses at 1RM. These were surprisingly easy lifts, considering for me they were all lifetime PRs. They were, respectively:
    Squat 325x1
    Bench 220x1
    Deadlift 360x1
for a gym total of 905.

Ideally, these lifts will either be my openers or last warm-ups headed in to meet day.

The plan is virtually the same as the four day Texas method, version 2, in PPFST3. This is essentially what I had been doing before (Earlier Log here) as "the Wolf Method", but on a 3 days schedule and not a 4 day one. The move to four days is almost entirely about the time I have available to train, which is about an hour, around 6am, Monday through Friday, in order to keep my weekends and evenings clear for family (wife, almost 1 year old son) and other obligations. Bench will generally move up about 2.5 pounds each time, and Squat and Deadlift 5 pounds each time. I'm going to start with 5s, and try to push those as long as I can before moving to triples, and finally singles across in the last week before meet week's intensity day. The "taper" i have planned is virtually identical to the one presented in the article 12 Ways to Skin the Texas Method over at BBM.

    Without more ado, today's training:
    Monday, February 19
    Volume Bench, Volume Press, Chins
    Bench Press 45x5x2, 95x5, 135x3, 155x2, 175x5x5
    Press 95x8x3
Chins BWx5x3 - these were really a lot more difficult than they ought to have been.

My kiddo took a turn for the sick on Thursday night and we were up most of that night, so friday's time slot got bumped to today.

Today wasn't terrible but it was not good either.

Squat 45x5x2, 135x5, 225x3 - I had the bar an inch too low and this felt like a ton of bricks, 255x2, 275x5 - fine, depth alright, except a horrible time breathing getting tight and staying tight. last two reps were more stripper squaty.

Deadlift 135x5, 225x3, 275x2, 315x5 - no belt, so that's cool, and pretty easy on the first 3 reps. I use a mixed grip and reps 4 and 5 drifted out more than they should have.

whatever. tomorrow's a new day, Monday is a new week, onward and upward.

    Menorahsaurus Rex no want deadlift
Squat 45x5x2, 135x5, 185x3, 225x2, 250x5x5. First set was still getting loose at bottom, but sets 2-3-4 pretty good. Set 5 wasn’t bad, just tired by that point.

    Deadlift 135x5, 225x3, 280x5x2
