    - Exer-genie:
    15 m x 24 lbs
    15 m x 42 lbs

    The misery continues.

    - log press:
    5 x 1 x 50 kg
    2 x 1 x 60 kg
    2 x 1 x 70 kg

Wanted to figure out why it went so badly last time. I think I should dip less. Just enough to get the belt under the log.

    - axle:
    3 x 1 x 50 kg
    2 x 1 x 60 kg

    - medley:
    axle:
    2 x 1 x 65 kg

    log:
    2 x 1 x 70 kg

    keg:
    2 x 1 x 50 kg

    - axle:
    2 x 1 x 65 kg

Was supposed to be set 3 & 4 of medley but I failed to press the log. Leg drive was non-existent.

    - log:
    2 x 1 x 70 kg

Probably too much pressing at this weight, but I was really annoyed with it.

    - keg:
    1 x 50 kg

    - Zercher yoke:
    2 x 15 m x 100 kg
    2 x 50 m x 130 kg
    70 m x 130 kg

    Rough distances. Not bad.

    - yoke:
    2 x 15 m x 150 kg

I was too tired, and called it a day. It was a good call, because it started raining.

    - log press:
    5 x 1 x 50 kg
    2 x 1 x 60 kg
    5 x 1 x 70 kg

Played around with the log press and discovered something. When the weight on the log is 90% of my max or more I need to squat lower and keep my elbows higher to get the log in a good position to press from. When the weight is less I squat shallower and don't have to keep my elbows high because the log ends up in a bad position. Victory!

    - yoke:
    4 x 15 mx 150 kg
    2 x 15 m x 170 kg
    2 x 15 m x 190 kg

This is my last yoke session before the comp next Saturday. I dropped both 170 kg runs and the first two 190 kg. The last two were wobbly.

    - plank:
    60 s

    - axle press:
    1 x 50 kg
    1 x 50 kg
    1 x 60 kg
    1 x 60 kg

    GS 1.

    - log press:
    1 x 50 kg
    1 x 50 kg
    1 x 60 kg
    1 x 60 kg

    GS 1.

    - medley:
    - axle:
    4 x 1 x 65 kg

    - log:
    4 x 1 x 70 kg

    - keg:
    2 x 1 x 50 kg
    2 x 50 kg
    1 x 50 kg

Third run was the best. I hurried too much on the last set, messed up my breathing, which messed up my pick-up which led to a failed press on the secod rep. Should have practiced multiple reps with the keg, not just singles.

This Saturday I did my second strongman competition. Since the sport of strongman doesn’t exist where I live, I traveled to Hamburg, Germany to compete. The announced events were 8 ton truck pull, 250 kg Conan’s wheel, overhead medley with 70 kg axle, 80 kg log & 70 kg keg and a 220 kg yoke. I didn’t go as well as I hoped it would, but I’m still pleased with the result. I met some nice people and even attended a strongman seminar.

On the day of the competition I weighed in at 78 kg fully clothed and with my shoulder bag, and got listed in the u90 class.

The first event was the overhead medley. I knew the axle was not going to be a problem, but the log was going to be a 5 kg PR and the keg would be a PR. I hit the axle with no problem, but failed the log. I got it to my shoulders three or four times but just couldn’t press it. Not the start I wanted.

The second event was Conan’s wheel. When I went to pick it up, it felt ungodly heavy. After struggling with the pick up for most of the minute I managed to pick it up and carry it a few steps. I was hoping for a better performance here.

Then it was time for the yoke. I wasn’t feeling too confident after the poor showing in the first two events. The yoke was announced as 220 kg but no distance. My research indicated a possible 25 meter run. At home I practiced runs up to 20 meters and my max weight was 200 kg for 15 m and hoped I would carry 220 for 25 somehow. It turned out it was a max distance yoke in 60 seconds! Run 25 meters, drop, turn around, run back 25 and so on. Talk about a surprise. I got set up, and demolished that run with 64.5 meters, really surprising myself. Running on hard ground is easier than across my grassy, bumpy front yard. This event really improved my mood.

Last event was the truck pull, but it turned out it was only for top 20 girls and top 20 guys. I wasn’t one of those and that left me really disappointed. Fortunately, after the competition anyone who wanted to try and pull the truck could do it, so I did it and that further improved my mood.

In the end I was 32nd out of 34 male competitors (60 in total), but 3rd out of 4 in the u90 class so I won my first prize. A bronze medal and a shaker and protein from Dennis Kohlruss Gods Rage company.

Congrats on the bronze! Any thoughts on how this will change your future training, if at all?
