While competing at the SS meet this Sunday, the topic of training logs/following strangers on the internet came up and this seems like a good place to keep a neater log. The last meet was the third one I've done, and I plan on doing the next SS meet plus an RPS powerlifting meet in July, so this seems like a good section for it (even though I probably won't come close to winning.)

    4/24/16

    BW: 207.2

    Squat: 330, 340xF, 345
    Press: 150, 157.5, 165xF
    Deadlift: 500, 535, 560

I had a little more on squats despite being pretty worried going in and getting reds on my second attempt. 345 was a 15lbs meet PR and 10lbs overall PR, plus mysteriously lacked my usual flaws. Pressing attempts were pretty close to my limit, but I got into my knees a little on 165 and my feet came up because the bar was a little behind so it was two red lights. So a 7.5lbs meet PR and unofficially pressing 165 was nice. Deadlifts had more too; 560 was the easiest max I've done after pulling a 485 triple and nothing heavier than 530 pre-meet. 570 would've been a good choice to match my trainee's deadlift at the meet. Total was 1062.5 and wilks was 301.something which is +57.5 and +10 respectively. Could be better in 6 months, so hopefully I can add that much for the next meet in 12 weeks.

    4/25/16

    Bench Press- 205lbs 3x3
    Curls for the Girls (barbell): 90lbs x10, 9, 10

Back wasn't sore at all from the meet and gets sore a few hour after benching. Feeling strangely fresh after the meet but still going to ease back into things to avoid getting stuck.

    4/27/16,

    Squat- 265lbs x3, 275lbs 3x3, 265lbs x3
    Press- 125lbs x3, 135lbs 3x3, 125lbs x3

Squat+Press deload week. For squats it was needed because those felt like shit and I'm not sure how I've ever done 275 5x5. Pressing felt pretty ez so this bodes well. Didn't have time for SGDL or chin ups so I'll do those tomorrow between clients at work.

Thanks guys. Gonna try to catch up to your pull for October, Tom. And I am 6'6", but feels like 7'13" during squats and front "drowning baby giraffe" squats.

Since I didn't get to finish VD yesterday:
    4/28/16

    SGDL- 225lbs x3, 275lbs x3, 315lbs 2x3
    Chin Ups- +50lbs x5, 5, 6

Since the gym got new bars that are sort of good and specifically for weightlifting, I was able to use my actual snatch-grip. Gripping is no fun and makes me wish I didn't lose a strap, plus I could feel the back fatigue from Sunday plus squats yesterday. Chin ups were ez and I could've had 1 or 2 more on the last set if I chalked up.

While coaching one of my friends on her snatches, one of our coworkers comes up and says she needs to start with the hips low otherwise she "loses force production." After agreeing that the bar has to be against the shins and shins must be vertical when the bar is below the knee, he proceeds to demonstrate snatch pulls done from the toes and pulled straight up several inches away from the body. When he starts with the SS set up, he rolls the bar forward before starting the pull to show me he doesn't pull around his knees. Of course this is possible with the 85lbs my friend was using for her work sets. Too bad he didn't show us with a heavy weight.

He only needs to gain about 190 lbs to maximize his leverages.

And that's less than double my bodyweight now, yay progress.

    4/29/16,

    Fronties- 225lbs 3x3
    Bench Press- 195lbs 4x4
    Power Clean- 185lbs x3, 195lbs x3, 205lbs 2x3, 195lbs x2+F+1
    Curls- 95lbs x9, 8, 8

Fronties were a little harder than usual, and starting next week I have to hold them at 80% of VD again. Touched too low on first set of bench, fixed it later. Wanted fahves but still fatigued from chins and SGDL. It's not a true VD since its on the recovery day, but it probably doesn't have to be so close in weight to the heavy day so we'll see how that goes. Power cleans started good but started bumping them forward at the end. Need to wait a little longer before the jump. Curls were a PR, so that's the really important part.

    5/1/16,

    Squat- 275lbs x3, 285lbs x3, 295lbs x3
    Press- 135lbs x3@ez, 150lbs x2+F, 150x4@10
    Deadlift- 405lbs x5, 435lbs x1
    Chin Ups- 13, 11, 10

Squats were relatively easier than Wednesday which is good, but still felt harder than usual. 270 5x5/305x5 should be fine next week. Press felt good so I didn't deload for the heavy day. Then I stumbled on the second rep of 150 and lost tightness for the third. Set of 4 was a PR and had way better balance. It was also my opener last week. Back to deadlifting with a flat back and it was a little slow off the floor but went fine. Found a bar high enough to chin ups on with a real hollow position if I straddle enough to hang with my feet off the ground.

Favourite press cues for people I train for funsies: Use the gloryhole and make yourself look fat (which necessitates the use of the gloryhole.)

    5/2/16,

    Bench Press- 205lbs x3, 207.5lbs x3, 2+F, 3
Curls for the Girls- 95lbs 3x10
    LTE's- 70lbs+EZ x8, 8, 10

Benching has been feeling really weird lately. I don't want to touch too low otherwise I get stuck like an inch before lockout, but I don't want my shoulder to feel grody from touching too high. 205 was better than last week, and 207.5 was fine but my wrist rolled a little on set 2 and I lost the 3rd rep. Last set was the best one. Curls were fine and another PR, but I felt dirty using the bent bar. LTE's were fine but I had to switch out 35's for smaller plates because I kept bumping the floor on the way down. I think LTE's are supposed to be heavier than curls, so maybe I should keep these around for a while.

    5/3/16,

    Triceps soreness @11

    5/4/16,

    Squat- 270lbs 5x5
    Press- 135lbs 5x5
    SGDL- 275x3, 300x3, 325x5 (straps)
    Chin Ups- 55lbs 3x5

Squats were relatively easy, starting at around a 7 and finishing at an 8 by most. I'm hoping to push the fahves across for longer before switching to a pyramid again. Press was ez until the last set where it was a little fatigued and my quads/back almost cramped. Turns out SGDL's are a lot hard when you grip collar to collar instead of 2 inches in, so I strapped up for the last set. Building these back up with the wider grip should be good though. Chin ups were still pretty ez and grip is the first thing to go.

A guy wearing the t-shirt from the Fall Classic was lifting at my gym today, and it turns out he did some USAPL meets at South Brooklyn. He also had one of those cool 2.5 inch belts for pulling. It was like being a Russian spy who runs into a comrade.

    5/5/16,

Standing for 9 hours at work the day after VD @10

    5/6/16,

    Fronties- 216lbs 3x3 no belt
    Bench Press- 190lbs 4x5
    Power Clean- 195lbs x3, 200lbs 5x3
    Curls- 95lbs x8, 8, 8, 6

Fronties were harder than they should be, tfw at bottom of SRA curve. Benching was fine, figured out where to touch and all the sets were a 7-8. Power cleans started off pretty shitty from an early second pull but the last two sets were back to how they should be. Pump from curls could've been sicker.
