Thursday and Friday last week were rough. But a good restful weekend has helped.

    Back in the saddle.
    Squat: 45x5x2, 135x5, 185x5, 225x3, 250x2, 275x1, 295x1 (@rpe 7), 265x5x3.

    Comp Bench 45x5x2, 95x5, 135x5, 155x3, 175x2, 185x5x3

    Lat pull 100x10x3

Squatting was what I was most worried about. The singles were great, and I used them to try to get a handle on where I was at today, nothing more. The fives were less good, partly I think because I rushed the rest periods (3-4 minutes) and partly I think due to this being the first squatting in almost two weeks. Minor form issues at every part of the lift during these fives.

Benching went well. I don’t train with a partner but I used the commands I will hear in competition on at least the first rep of every set.

I am glad I got this in, glad of how much better this went than I thought it might.

Other changes going forward: going back to a MWF schedule, organized more like a HLM. Today would have been the heavy squat, heavy bench and light pull. I will deadlift on Wednesday, along with presses and light squat, and Friday will likely be medium everything. The reasoning has entirely to do with life and schedule, not a philosophy of programming. Monday is the easiest to make, easiest to push, and easiest to plan for. Then Wednesday, I want to make sure that I deadlift heavy, and so if I just get through those two I feel confident. Last, I think it is a no brained that my squatting issues are directly correlated to going to a lower frequency. I hope going back to three times a week helps me keep that groove.

BRIAN sits on couch buried under cat on lap and baby in left arm, a fresh, delectable cup of joe just out of reach on the table before him. Stupid Brian.*
If only there were some way to safely attach weights to babies you could do some baby curls.
Congrats, belatedly, on your bench PR!

    Thanks!

re; the bench - I've always had a hate-hate relationship with it until now. feels very good to keep that moving up.

re; the baby - Oh, I've been doing all manner of baby exercises with him as weight since he was about 3-4 months. He LOVES it, most of the time. I always do it in sets of Fahve, counting the reps, and reminding him in my Rip impression that "we do sets of fahve!"
Related, my baby is also Bam-Bam strong. This has led to an earlier than expected obsolescence of a baby gate, a few household items, and several toys, all of which presumed to be sturdy enough for normal rugrats.

    This AM:

DL 45x5x2, 135x5, 185x3, 225x2, 275x1 all hook grip 315x1, 325x3x2 - plan was to do it for 5, but my right thumb had other ideas. It popped on the way down on rep three of the first set.
Press 45x5x2, 85x5, 105x3, 125x2, 145x3x3 - PR. Last time I touched this weight, it was a grindy all out single. Drilled these!
    Squat 45x5x2, 135x5, 185x5, 215x6x2

I'm picturing fragments of wood (or snapped plastic) everywhere.

    Ahhh, baby days.

I'm surprised my kids survived my mishandling...

They are designed to survive! Now that he can walk, nothing is safe!

    Extra medium this AM

Squats 45x5x2, 135x5, 185x3, 225x2, 240x5x3 - feels "grooved" again, if that makes sense. Right shoulder funky.
    Bench Press 45x5x2, 95x5, 135x3, 155x2, 175x1, 187.5x5x3 - technically a record with that weight for reps/sets
    Deadlift 135x5, 225x5, 260x5
