Keep in mind I'm a touch over 6'1 and about 19% bf, so I'm a bit skinnyfatweak.

    Default Conclusion

So...here's a thought that I had during training today. Most of the rest between sets was sitting down and checking my phone with my head down. Then I stood up, took four steps to the rack and squatted. Anyone else get dizzy when they stand up too fast? Then add hard squats...

I walked around today between sets instead of sitting down and had no issues. Lesson: don't text and squat.

I'd still chalk it up to shit happens. I think most, if not everyone, has had it happen. It's good you didn't get hurt but besides that, it's not unheard of or a big deal.

Anytime I start to feel a blackout coming on, it's been because I didn't get enough carbs before a workout.

Also, 5 minutes and 30 seconds rest between sets is probably making you work harder than you need to be. I'd stretch it out to at least 7 if not 8 minutes and see where that gets you.

This happened to me a couple times doing deadlifts. The advice I got from an SSC was to spit out a bit of air at the top of the lift. Since then I let myself grunt a bit or whatever feels natural and haven't had a reoccurrence.
