Ditch the AMRAP
Hi,
I'm doing GSLP but not sure if I'm posting in the right forum, but my question IS programming related.
So I've been suggested by Jordan in the nutrition thread to ditch the AMRAP sets in my programming, although I'm pretty sure he ran GSLP himself in the past.
Any ideas on the reasoning behind this suggestion? Or does it not really matter?
I.e.
3x5+ Bench
3x5+ Squat
Or
3x5 Bench
3x5 Squat
I tried replying to him but havent had a response yet.
I've been using GSLP with success so far, it seems the best programme to run alongside my current situation.
Cheers!

Maybe because he ran it he knows it didn't work as well as other approaches? Just because you tried something doesn't mean you endorse it.
The problem with AMRAP is mainly that set of 8, or 10, or 12 is not the same as a set of 5. You should just go heavier and do 5s. If you are able to do 10, you aren't using enough load to drive a strength adaptation.
Plus there is a soreness factor from higher rep sets that make high frequency a problem.
