    Default Programming Chins for GGW

Andy, I started the GGW program yesterday. Prior to that I finished running out Advanced Novice LP and I am seriously drained from that at 45 years old. I was "starting on empty" as it says in Barbell Prescription at the end. I made unbelievable progress, but without a doubt is it time for HLM for me.

I have been doing 3 sets of Chins to failure for about 2 months while on LP. Reps went from 6-5-4 early on to 12-8-6 while my BW increased to 195 lbs. I always took 5 minutes rest between sets of chins.

I read in another response where you said using Chins in place of BB Rows is fine for the GGW. Since I'll only chin once per week on GGW, should I keep working 3 sets to failure or use some other scheme?

That's fine or just set a rep goal like maybe 30 to start with and just achieve 30 reps in as many sets as it takes. When you can do that in 5 or less sets then bump up the total. Work on decreasing the total time it takes you to achieve your rep goal each week
