    Default Barbell prescription bench emphasis question.

    I posted this in a different forum, seems like this is a better spot to post it.

    In the book there is a discussion regarding emphasizing the bench press. Suggesting 5x5 on the press on recovery day. What do I do on intensity day as far as the press? I see where it suggests close grip bench back off sets but should I do 1x5 press on intensity day as well?

    What is the program structure that you're using right now? 1x5 can work for a while but will run out fairly quickly. You'll need to play with different set/rep schemes to keep driving the intensity up. Andy Baker wrote a good piece on intensity day: Understanding the Texas Method Intensity Day | Andy Baker

    That's a good read on intensity day, thanks for that. I haven't been doing texas method (1 year probably) for a while so I should be able to progress again for a bit on 5x5 and 1x5s I was hoping. I was considering trying it with the bench press emphasis as discussed in the book vs. alternating bench and press.
