I’m thinking of trying something a bit different and Am curious what the coaches opinions are. I am currently competing in powerlifting as a master (55-59) power lifter and am using a 4 day split spread out to 9 days.

Understanding the two factor model of training, the sport specific skill for powerlifting is a single max rep. Would it make sense to only use the competitive technique for singles (clusters perhaps) and then do all repetitions using a close variation (underloaded or overloaded), for example pin squats, pause squats, long pause bench, banded bench, low block pulls, deficits?

Any input would be appreciated.
