Rather than start another thread, I thought I'd just piggy back onto this one with a similar question. Hope it's okay!

172.5kg last week was difficult but I got 5 in
175kg just now felt EASY but my grip failed me as I tried to lift the 5th rep despite the 4th going up super quick and easy. Without the grip failing, I felt I had at least another 3 reps in me - i'm not sure where that came from! I ended up resting a couple minutes and just getting that last rep in.

I'm guessing i should start using straps now? I plan to go for 177.5kg x 5 next week despite only getting 4 on the set because I felt it was very sub-optimal due to grip. I felt so strong today I had to double check the load a couple of times.

The guy with the cat has probably read the books, he just disagrees with them.

I don't disagree with the substance of the books at all. I only prefer a different way of recording sets and reps at a certain work weight. Analogous to you preferring a steak cooked rare, but want it cooked to medium rare. We both love the steak, but have a slight difference in preference in how it is cooked.

They're his notes. He can record them in upside-down Braille if he wants to, I don't care.

@nwoz I think it's time you start alternating rack pulls and haltings.

I prefer just sticking with sets x reps in any context.
Pretty simple: Reps is always the second number.
If weight is listed: weight x reps x sets
If no weight listed: sets x reps
