Yeah, I kinda wanted to harsh on this from the git-go, but I decided to focus on form issues.
But they're right, OP. If you're serious, you need serious equipment.
And I agree with Tom...only more so. I think box squats are inappropriate for novice trainees.

OK got rid of the box. The barbell I am using at the moment is good up to 100kg (220lbs) so it will do until I get my technique right. I know it's not the ideal set up but it's what I have got right now.

Allow yourself to lean over a little more. This will allow you to get your depth and keep your knees from coming forward at the bottom of the squat. It will also help you drive your hips up. A low bar squat is not done with as vertical of a torso as you can. You are close on the depth, maybe an inch away.
