    Also, 1 RMs are fairly useless for form checks. A set of five is what we need to see.

    The bar looks like it's moving back towards your leg the entire time. Any horizontal movement near max weights will kill your speed off the floor more than anything else. Take a video from the side or have someone watch from the side to ensure your bar path is vertical.

    That's because his setup isn't very good. Plus, the bar only travels a few inches, so, once again, speed off the floor is something of an irrelevancy. Heavy deadlifts don't tend to happen quickly. I care about strength off the floor. I care about good position off the floor that enables force to be efficiently transmitted to the bar. Absolute best place to film deads is slightly forward of the side view maybe 2 feet above the ground. You can still see bar path, and where the shoulders are, but you can also see if the bar is on the shins, you can see stance width, and you can see the grip. The plates no longer obscure the lifter. Also, sets of five. Fuck singles, especially failed singles, for form checks.
