Thanks guys.
I'm wearing the belt for DLs, Squats and Presses. I may try it for Bench presses too, based on your input.
And I gotta say, I am completely sold on the benefits of wearing a belt. The difference is really very surprising.
For squats, I previously had the habit of leaning forward in the hole and often I would end up having to do a very heavy 'good morning' on the way back up. For some reason, the belt seems to have stopped this completely (so far) and that's a relief in itself.
Also, as I've been squatting heavier my lower back has begun to complain after squat sets. (I've had form checks and I'm not going too low, or anything.) But immediately I wore the belt that discomfort is no longer an issue.
Finally, wearing the belt really allows me to focus entirely on the posterior chain and my form feels far more solid. And, yes, it provides a fantastic focus on ab and core support which is beyond anything I felt previously.
As for the press. Again, I had been getting some lower back pain from that - although my press follows squats so it may have been partly due to that too. In any case, since wearing the belt there's no such issue any longer. And again, it feels far more solid.
Same for DL.
So I'm very pleased that Mac suggested it. I never would have considered a belt otherwise - genuinely, I hadn't previously given it a moment's thought. And thanks for everyone's input on this thread.
I was cheeky and nicked a belt from I gym I worked at for a short time
as it is same width all way round and anything gym wise here in New Zealand is fucking expensive
(Should of brought it all back in England)
but it is velco and has a annoying habit of just coming off during deadlifts
which though looks good, doesn;t help me
Well, stealing is a bad fucking idea.
And here I am, thinking that only my gym left belts for general patron's use.
Complete pieces of shit, though.
