My brother has this one in his garage. It is very high quality, durable, and the casters on the bottom come in handy so you don't have to carry plates around all over the place when loading/unloading and stowaway when you are done.

edit: I actually just noticed, the 8th 'review' is his, lol.

the top peg is too close to the middle one. one of the reviewers mentioned his change plates not fitting.

that said, it is still a contender.

it's hard to tell from the pic, but i assume the base is bolted symmetrically on both sides ? in other words that little triangular piece that the bolts go through and that is welded to the base - there are two of them, one on each side - correct ?

with the exception of the wheels it appears to be heavier duty than other racks in this price range.

Friend just built a horizontal play area for his new bumpers. Looks like 20-30$ in wood.

Ok i dug up more alternatives:

    http://commercial.livefit.com/conten...T-01CPL_mr.jpg

    http://www.lifefitness.com.au/upload...be5062fe7d.jpg

it is a Life Fitness ( parent company of Hammer Strength ) signature series olympic weight tree.

and judging from the pictures it will take full size plates on 4 out of 6 pegs. it weighs 95 pounds, or about twice as much as an average consumer grade tree, and it is built out of 11 guage steel in what looks like 2 x 4 cross section, and has a 10 year commercial warranty on the frame.

in other words it is comparable in construction and warranty to Precor Icarian weight tree, but whereas the Icarian will only take full size plates on 2 out of 6 pegs, this will take them on 4 out of 6. it is also about 10 pounds heavier than the Icarian, so probably stronger.

the downside is floor foot print.

the icarian takes up less space:

also looking at rae crowther pro horizontal bumper rack:

    another one ( best yet ? )

    http://www.torquefitness.com/commercial/fptspec.html

this one will take a full size plate on any of the 6 pegs, and is by far the strongest of any tree i have seen that can do so. the only other tree that can take a full size bumper on any of the 6 pegs and is indestructible at the same time is the Eleiko ... which is not even available in US

i think this is the most intelligently designed plate tree i have seen yet ! for example - it has 3 legs - ultimate stability !

i also like how it uses a combination of welds and bolts to balance shipping dimensions with strength. very impressive !

EDIT: don't like it any more. i analyzed the geometry and it seems it would be possible to tip it in a certain configuration of load. NEXT ...

    found this beauty:

    http://www.aibifitness.com/consumer/...torage_station

the genius part about this thing is that it replaces two weight trees, but occupies the space of one, because you shove it against the wall and all the weights are accessible from one side.

with normal weight trees you need access form opposite sides of the tree, so they may look small, but actually you need a lot of space for them.

also it is efficient in terms of material use and shipping dimensions. it would essentially fold flat for shipping and the only bolts ( the weak points ) in this design are under almost no load at all, no matter where you put the plates - very clever.

i would need to find out about any discounts / shipping costs for this and make double sure it can take full size bumpers on 4 pegs. this is a hell of a product ...

and incredibly it is listed as consumer product, not commercial product. so while the price is high, it is not as high as you might expect from a commercial product this size.

the construction is on the light duty side. only 120 pounds for something almost 6 feet tall. perhaps that is why it is listed as residential. but let's face it, if it was built like the Icarian it would cost twice as much.

Coceptually the Hoist storage solution is similar to the York Single-Sided tree:

    http://www.ironcompany.com/single-si...x#.UsKyffRDtAo

I have seen somewhere 490 LBS figure for the weight of that tree which scared me away, but now i re-visited this tree and it actually weighs 198 LBS, which is more or less what you would want ...

    Hm ...
