well the bar jack thread is a fail of epic proportions ...

    that's OK ...

    i still need a plate tree for bumpers ... i guess you will say i don't need it either ... i guess i don't ... but i want one

so i have been doing some research, and i have a few contenders at this point:

    http://www.amazon.com/CFF-Bumper-Pla.../dp/B00AFCM092

or the same one, direct from CFF:

    https://christiansfitnessfactory.com...late-tree.html

judging from the reviews it gets the job done, but the quality is nothing to write home about in my opinion.

here is a slightly better built one:

    http://www.pendlay.com/Pendlay-Elite...ack_p_561.html

but the downside is that the top pegs can only be used for small plates. this is not a huge downside, as i would be using them for small plates anyway, but it would be nice to have some extra room there. as it is - it is very tight:

    http://www.neptunebarbell.com/assets...plates6002.jpg

just the bare minimum amount of room was provided, just like the first tree provides just the bare minimum amount of build quality.

    stepping up is this guy:

    http://www.werksanusa.com/UPRIGHT-PL...nfo/RACK-VERT/

it is a larger tree, than the first two. but aside from the obscene pricing, there is what i consider a flaw - the main "tree" is connected to the base by just 4 small bolts spaced very closely together. as such it appears it would actually be less sturdy than the pendlay.

    the Eleiko is perfect:

    http://www.eleikosport.se/en/46/prod...c=3001683&cn=1

fully welded like the Pendlay, but larger and twice as heavy.

unfortunately, i can't find one for sale in US ? i'm sure it would be too expensive anyway, but it would be nice to at least have that option.

can you recommend a good bumper tree ? ideally i would like one like the Eleiko but for the price of that first one i linked

    there is also this troy:

but compared to the CFF which is similarly priced it is smaller, and the pegs seem to be painted - this paint probably will rub off real quick.

Here's a suggestion, give your fancy competition bumpers to me and you can have my crappy CAP Barbell plates. You won't mind leaving them lying around on the floor, because they're poorly cast, imprecisely heavy pieces of cheap junk.

Ok, it was'nt scrap but i wanted it to look nice.
i know it pisses me off that it's easier to make something yourself than to buy it. it shouldn't be this way. imagine if it was easier to make an iphone yourself LOL.

sometimes i build stuff myself, but only when i have no other options.

    here is an interesting tree:

    http://www.cybexintl.com/free-weight...uct-16141.aspx

it is designed for regular plates, not bumpers but i think it might actually fit bumpers on 4 pegs at the same time.

it is built more solidly than Werksan and i am pretty sure it is cheaper than Eleiko.

however it appears the iron grip plate is actually smaller than a bumper plate. according to ironcompany a full inch smaller ?

    !@#%

i added werksan to shopping cart to check shipping cost - it is only $16 to ship the humongous thing. not bad.

    prices including shipping:

    werksan $536
    pendlay $282
    CFF $149

I made holders out of 2x3's. They are just four boards screwed together. Two lie parallel on the floor with the three inch side on the ground. The other two connect them with the 3 inch side acting as vertical support. I have one for each side of the platform.

If you size them right you can keep them just off the floor. Works like a charm. Just roll them out and back in again.

i know a horizontal rack out of 2 x 4 lumber is very practical. the problem with horizontal racks is they take up more space. i'm so short on space i may not even be able to fit a power cage. i'm really trying to go vertical here, narrow and tall.
