I would say that if you look up "looking strong" in the dictionary. A picture of Mr. Ladnier would suffice...

Thanks for doing the interview - very nice.

    Default the lad...

Awesome walk down memory lane! I was in high school in the early 80's and powerlifter myself. I can remember checking my mail box eagerly in the summer looking for powerlifting usa magazine - wanting to see the results of the senior national meets. The 1983 seniors had to be the best powerlifting meet of all time.

I never followed any of this stuff, it's fascinating. Great stories.

Had to google Fred Hatfield, wow 1000+ lbs squats. Amazing.

    Interview Part II

    Jim Cash Deadlift, 1982 Seniors

Cash's second attempt was 843 lb/382.5 kg for the win.

    Larry Pacifico

Just before Cash started the his pull, Pacifico screamed from the side of the stage that he had oil on his legs.

Pacifico did it to derail Cash.

    Referees

The Referees stopped Cash. Then inspected Cash.

    No oil!

    Poor Refereeing

The referee's had no right at that point to stop Cash from taking his second attempt because it was ALL based on hearsay.

They should have allowed Cash to attempt the pull and then have inspected him.

    No Lift

Cash pulled the weight up to his knees on the second and barely broke off the ground on his third.

    Scorer's Table

I was the announcer at the Scorer's Table that day and watched it all go down.

    Ladnier Interview

Great interview with some interesting information.

For those interested, I thought I would post video of Lee Moran going after 1000. Pretty amazing.

First video is of two failed attempts with comments from Capt. Kirk and Joe Ladnier. Second video is the successful squat.
