A surprisingly large percentage of the population has a Leg Length Discrepancy (LLD) – I’ve seen estimates, probably conservative, that 70% of the population exhibit LLD. It’s normally not noticeable when the difference is less than 1/2 inch (13 mm) or so. But when it’s greater than that, the asymmetric loading on the pelvis under a squat or deadlift can be enough to cause problems that should be addressed with corrective measures. We use a shim under the foot.

Hello Mark. Would like to know if you know anyone in South florida who can help me assess my hip and legs to see if there is any discrepancy.

No. You'll have to do your own research.

Hi, I just wanted to say thank you for this article. I've started the long way to becoming a SS coach from overseas, and there's a possibility that my first paying trainee is someone who has a diagnosed LLD. The article is very clear and extremely helpful so people like me don't screw up and can even actually do some good. Thanks!

Hello Mark, in the article you said that for those who have a LLI in the femurs the situation is more complicated to handle. May I ask you to dig into this a bit more? How do you handle this cases? In my case I have, from an x-ray, an overall difference of 11-12mm (7 in the femur and 3-4 in the tibiae). I am always told from specialists here in Italy that it is still a mild difference and that it should not give all the problems that I have. In your experience, how many athletes did you have with such a "small" discrepancy that required treatments and specific training? Thank you for your time. Bye, Francesco.
