Do you have access to a lat machine?
I am 60 and a former arborist of 35 years. Retired in 2017. My body is beat to hell from years of climbing trees and running chain saws. Constant lower back, knee and shoulder pain. several minor surgery along the way No regrets, however, I provided a good living for the family. Shortly after I retired (about a year ago) a friend of my got me interested in lifting weights following the Barbell Prescription. At first I thought this would be easy based off the kind of work I done but I was surprised of the challenges. A year later here are my numbers:
Like I said I am 60 years at 5'9 and 175 pounds. (That is up 20 pounds which was hard to come by. I am consuming 3000 to 3500 calories daily)
My main lifts are:
Squat 240
Bench 180
Dead 280
Press 125
My current program looks like this
Mon - Heavy Bench/ Light Press
Tues - Heavy Squat / RDLs
Thurs - Heavy Press / Light Bench
Fri - Light Squat / Heavy Deads
I avoided chins or pull downs because they hurt my shoulder more that any other lift. The other day I thought I would give a chin a try and I was surprised that I could not even perform a single, since I had spent the majority of my life climbing trees and pulling myself up by a rope. I would like to attempt to perform chins.
So here is my question: Would it be better for me to start with band assisted chins or pull downs or another method? Would doing barbell rows help?
Also I just wanted to thank you for a great program.
