Ah interesting, thanks. I've been dropping to the hang position first. Sadly, I work out in a commercial gym so they'd kick me out if I dropped the bar.

Any tips on how to minimise soreness if I have to go to the hang position (short of changing gym, which isn't an option due to cost)? Maybe if I get my legs to take more of the strain when I drop the bar into the hang position?

Well, it's a bunch of extra eccentric work you're adding, exactly the sort of deal where you expect to be sore while you're still unadapted to it.

    starting strength coach development program
So happy to have found this article. I’m in week 2 of the program, and was wondering if lack of DOMS after the first couple of sessions meant I wasn’t going hard enough. I got my starting weights by stopping when form started to fail, and have increased each session since, so hopefully ok.
