Default Stan Efferding coaching a Starting Strength squat

This was posted a couple of days ago and already has 250k views. Stan demonstrates some really helpful coaching cues, and I think the sight of a popular Youtuber who's already quite strong changing his model of the squat might open some eyes.

Stan sent this to me Thursday, and I'm busy at a seminar in Boston. Thanks for posting.

Watch Stan's bar path when he squats, it is pretty easy to see from the angle they shot the video. It's in the groove all the way down and up. A great demonstration, in my opinion.

I thought he did a decent job teaching the model especially getting an experienced lifter to change lifelong habits in a short time.

The fact that Stan is promoting the Squat according to the Starting Strength model is a great asset.

When teaching the vertical back angle he uses a metaphor which I haven't heard or thought about before. He calls the movmet with vertical back angle a standing leg press due to the stability it creates in the hole. When I squatted today I tried to concentrate on that during each rep and I find it a pretty helpful cue when approaching the bottom position and everything gets tightened as in an actual leg press. The cue probably doesn't work for a novice but for someone who has some experience with highbar Squats and also leg presses it might indeed be a helpful picture.

You mean "the horizontal back angle."

    Vocabulary. Definitions. Not grammar.

I should have blamed it on the fact that I am German and English is only my second language. but unfortunately the words horizontal and vertical also exist in my first language :-)
