"2019 was about proving that there is an unmet need for in-person Starting Strength coaching in major cities across the country. 2020 is going to be about growth: for trainees that lift with us, for gym owners that have invested in us, and in new markets that we are expanding in and to."

Are there specific cities or population ranges you are targeting for the small format gyms?

US cities that have several thousand hits to the website per year are preferred. If not, the prospect needs to have the ability to attract enough members to justify the investment (a prospect that’s the President of an association in a retirement community would be interesting to us, for example). In short: not specifically, we will evaluate cities and prospects on a case by case basis.

Great article Ray - I particularly love the 'gym within a gym' concept. This could really be a great way to expose the brand to the general public, with the slight advantage that this particular subset would already be 'exercisers', and you're just exposing them to 'training'.

Nailed it - our thoughts exactly. Lots to evaluate to determine if it’s feasible, but the concept is sound.
