I’m older, a couple years from 70, one day I was anguishing over being out of the weight room for a week because of a family issue.

My wife asked me “ Do you live to train or train to live” ?

She’s obviously smarter than I am.

You can just do two heavy but low volume sessions as a modified deload if you really can't do the program you've been doing because of time.

    Day 1: Squat Heavyx3x2, Bench Heavyx3x2

    Day 2: Deadlift Heavyx3, Press Heavyx3x2

    Heavy shouldn't be a 3RM.
It's not the time needed, but more the state after a full session ;-) Thanks Andrew, that's a great help.

They look like the same thing to me. I wouldn't 'anguish' if there was no where, or no time to lift-but there is I have a good lifting gym within 10 minutes walk of our holiday apartment, so, it would be a pity not to take advantage of it. It's always interesting lifting in a different gym, bus mans holiday thing going on.

Anytime. Good luck. Like I said, any lifting over vacation is a win (unless you're a competitive lifter)

I'm intending to begin competing this year as a master lifter in local meets-but I'm not at that stage yet.

Enter a meet now. There's no better way to become ready than to make it necessary.

You mean mentally or intentionally, or you aren't satisfied with your totals as of yet? Because you will find the prospect of competition sharpens the mind wonderfully. To paraphrase some famous dead, white Brit.

Since I am in my early 50's, vacation = vacation. Always a good mental break from work and training, IMO. I also know in advance that I may have to deload upon returning but its worth it.
The mental break and rest seems to work wonders.

You sound like my old drum tutor-he was certainly right though and so are you. I'm always trying to get perfected before signing up, but it's the wrong way around, so thanks for the push.
