Default Corona outbreak -> Gym closed down, need workout recommendations

    Hi all,

As per the title, I live in the Netherlands where currently precautions are being taken by the governing bodies for an attempt to limit the spread of Covid-19. Activities or meetings of 100 people or more are prohibited, meaning that my university has shut down the sports centre & gym until April 1st.

This is obviously a huge bummer as I won't be able to train. I don't have a home gym or know anyone with a barbell and rack so I suppose I'll be going on hikes, jogs, doing assisted chin ups at playground monkeybars, maybe sit-ups and pushups. Basically any bodyweight exercises to stay active. Hopefully in 3 weeks time I'll have access to a gym again and will have to figure out how get back into training. I think I'll do something like a 5% back off, as per the article The Reset: Why and How. But until then I need something to do.

Are there any workout programs any of you would recommend that can be done at home and without any equipment?

    Unhappy Gym's closed. Now what?

Because of COVID-19, the gyms around me are closed, and will be for a while.

Any suggestions on what I can do to at least minimize detraining in that time? I'm going to be "working from home," but just a few days of that is already driving me crazy. Unfortunately I don't have any equipment or anything at home...

You can't train a barbell strength program without barbells. Sorry.

Without bumper plates, there is literally nothing you can do. Unless, of course, you can find a bosu ball. Good luck (and stay healthy).

I specifically remember Andy Baker addressing this issue for someone going on a vacation. Sorry I can't find the link right away, but its around somewhere. He had specific recommendations for things to do to minimize the detraining you would experience.

In the US, laws such as limiting people to 100 people or less are non-enforcable due to our second amendment rights. Thank God I live here instead of Europe, I can go where I please without the government oppressing me with their rules.

I think you mean "our first amendment rights."

I'm just coming back from a 3 week layoff. At this point I'm just hoping I can get my last workout for this week in before the Y decides to close down.

    Both are necessary.

Although, I still think government closure/quarantine mandates will be unenforceable for those who choose not to obey in Europe. Look to the French fans of the Saint Germaine footaball club for guidance.
