"At 12, my doctors diagnosed me with scoliosis. I had a 36-degree curvature in my lumbar spine and a 15-degree curvature in my thoracic spine – a classic “S” curve. For 23-hours per day for five years I wore a plastic back brace that went from my armpits to my hips to help correct the curve..."

I must comment, the story is: in sweden we have a girl who is named Lee Winroth and She was diagnosed as a child, her dad lifted and he trained her. She is a soccer player today but lifts for fun. She lifted world record as 16 years Old. 190 kg. Google and you can see first a lift at the gym with her father filming. And another lift later when She was called by the sweden lifting federation who invited her to the nationals to prove herself in deadlift, she did. Thats remarkably.

It’s infuriating how many doctors are too ignorant, stubborn and cowardly to have the good sense to encourage their scoliosis patients to lift. A curved spine with strong muscles and dense bones? Or with weak muscles and brittle bones? The question answers itself.

Sorry - I feel strongly about this. My elderly mom suffers from advanced kyphosis (obviously not the same thing, I know), osteoarthritis and disc degeneration, and for years her doctors have warned against “heavy lifting”. My contrary advice has gone unheeded, of course.
