I just can’t get used to using a belt on deadlift, I use it ok on squats.
Am I giving up future gains on DL, what % ?
    I have a 3 inch Bests belt.
Just clicking over 400 on DL.

I wear it higher, and looser, on the DL than I do on the squat. Took some getting used to. I wear it tighter now than I did at first, but still not as tight as for the squat.

I still can't get used to wearing it for bench presses though.

I've never used a belt for the deadlift -- it always feels awful. My PR is 465 lbs. Its been a while since I made the decision to just give up on the belt, but that's ultimately what it was. I chose to accept whatever trade-offs were necessary rather than deal with belt. I figured if Konstantinovs could pull 426 kg without a belt, I can suck it up. Though maybe that's what killed him...

My 4" belt recently broke and I replaced it with a 3"; perhaps I'll try it again.

I pulled 272kg with a belt, then a few years later 286 without. Maybe I could have done more with a belt but I was ok with 286.

Somewhere along the way I learned to get roughly into your starting position of a deadlift and set you belt there. Rather they for a squat I stand upright. It puts the belt at a bit of an angle with the back higher up than when I'm standing. This seems to get a better placement for me.

Are you warming up with the belt on?

The more sets you do with the belt on, at a lighter load, the more opportunities you'll have to practice finding the right position. As opposed to 'just sending it' on your one workset and not having the opportunity until 48h later to try again.

I’ve tried using it for about 2 wks,(6 sessions) from 3rd to last warmup but can’t even get the last warmup. I think it messes with my setup cues. Maybe I have to try an even thinner one, a 2 or 2.5 inch.
