"Am I Skinny Fat?" | Mark Rippetoe
Stop using the term "skinny fat." Don't mess up your training because of an issue that will be fixed by that training.

OK so I'm pretty close to the stats of the dude posting this question and would appreciate hearing Mr. Rippetoe's opinion on when to go on a cut if at all possible?
I'm five months in doing HLM since i stalled on LP
48 years "skinny fat" 72" tall.
Form 195 to 220lbs
25-30% fat
Recent training log from past week includes (kg):
squat 292 x 5 x 5
Bench 220 5 x 3
Press 154 x 3 x 3
DL 325 x 5
My goals are to get as big as i can, then cut for aesthetics. However, I don't want to cut for two years to get back down to 12-15% body fat, either.
What #'s on the lifts should I strive for prior to cutting and how long should i allow for this to happen with intelligent programming?
I'm not competing. Just want to look good at the beach in my man thong.

Used online waist/neck calculator. 38" navel, 17" neck. 220 lbs. 72" tall. I know not super accurate, hence the 25-30% range estimate.

But my coach told me today I was closer to low 20s so I’d be more inclined to go with his number.

For a heterosexual man, you get your squat past 300, women are gonna start looking at you differently, doesn't matter how much fat you got on you. This should be enough to convince you. I don't know what the deal for gay men is, but it would surprise me if it was much different. Just don't try to cut body fat or anything before you push the squat past 300. Ideally, go for three plates before you start dicking around. This skinny fat thing is just a huge marketing ploy, that men seem to be extremely susceptible to. If you go down that road, you will never be lean enough.
