I wanted to check it out but to sign up requires a phone number. My number isn't a secret and I'm sure anyone could find it without much trouble but there's no reason that they need it. Bad enough they wanted an email that I'm sure would be bombarded with spam.

Easy enough to opt out of spam mail once you get it. I imagine the phone number is part of the connection to businesses, the basis of the app.
