Hi all, so basically I was 176lbs April 2023 and overbulking from 148lbs during that time. I then lost 36lbs and got to 140lbs by the end of august 2023. I then went to college and gained around 8lbs going back to 148lbs, I wasn’t lifting during this time. Went I came back home January 2024 I started lifting again and gained 9 pounds from Jan to June with decent strength progress. I was 157lbs beginning of June and then gained almost 30lbs from then to now. I’m now 183lbs and feel fat as hell with low strength. Bench 185x4 deadlift 225x5 squat 185x5 ohp 140x5. I feel terrible and don’t know what to do. I also have low back pain that goes up when I increase weight on squats and dead’s.

I don't understand the purpose of this post. You just want somebody to tell you to stop fucking around and do the program? And why the picture? Do you think you look fat?

Well... You are not really fat.

I think you need to get your testosterone levels checked for one. Secondly, going off your deadlift video you put up I would guess that you are not doing any of the lifts correctly which may not be helping your progress or your pain. I suggest you get a coach, in person or online.

Yes I do. I wanna look good and be strong. I feel like lifting is making me look worse when it’s supposed to make me look better.

What would you recommend I do diet wise? Thanks for the reply!

i think delgadillo has mentioned this before many times....you arent going to get the asthetic benefits from strength training until you are actually handling heavy weights. the heavy loads are what make the structural changes to your body possible. when you demand that your body adapts to progressively heavier loads, your body has no choice but to adapt. that adaptation is larger muscles, denser bones, thicker connective tissues, and yes some additional body fat if you are eating a surplus of calorie and protein. the combination of all those adapatations culminate in what we as humans view as desirable to the eye.

in summary, please get your squat from 225x5 to 365x5 and i think you wil be pleased. in the meantime, who gives a fuck what you look like or what you weigh. hope fully im not wasting my words here.

Get your squat to 315 for 5 and deadlift 365 for 5, which won't take long and the back pain will vanish as your progess. Make sure you are pulling and squatting with a flat back. You may have to feel some discomfort, but I doubt you are feeling pain if you are keeping a flat back.

How would lifting be making you look worse when you aren't actually doing it?

You describe gaining 30 pounds since June. If an NLP is maintained without changes it will take an empty bar squatter to three plates. There is no way you could have even approximated the program in that time and ended up with weights as light as you are lifting now.

You gained thirty pounds without adding weight to the bar. Consider the next five months your opportunity to add the three hundred pounds you should have added to your squat in that time.
