It was HOT today in the San Fernando Valley where the main dojo is. Like 75 when I got there and 95 when I left. Along with 98% humidity. The senior brown belts got paired up with the junior brown belts to polish up all 5 belts between white and purple. It was a little surprising how some of them had forgotten their earlier lower rank techniques. But then you tend to get transfixed on learning your current techniques to promote. We got into some digressions into variants of the attacks and I improvised one on the fly. I've never seen this done before.

The attacker grabs the defender's right shoulder with their right hand as a set up for a left hand sucker punch. The defender pivots to the right on the right foot while raising the right arm up and over the right arm of the attacker and drops their arm down drawing the attacker down and forward. The defender then strikes upward to the trachea, chin, or nose and taking the attacker down backwards summarily.

    Squat: 220 for 3 sets of 8 @ 70% of 1RM.

DB Hammer Curl: Sets of 8. 70-75-75.

I saw a young guy doing a Jefferson lift this morning. First time in my 50 some years of gym-rattery. His stance was all over the map with a back stance first and then trouble balancing the bar. It's an odd lift all right. Once he even did what could best be described as a sumo version. So I went over and praised him for keeping a pretty much deceased lift alive. This amused him and I made some suggestions based on my experience of trying them years ago. Funny how learning the SS model for DL's translated into fixing his moves.

Been absent from your log too long.

    It remains deeply inspirational.

Heh. Did that noise thing on purpose dincha?

September at the latest. Maybe sooner assuming I make the cut for black belt earlier. Scott AFB isn't but a hour or so drive from where we'll be. You gonna be around then? I will have more free time at my disposal than no doubt you will, so I'd drive up to see you and say hello.
