Took out my Harley for a ride on windy back roads to Cedar Lake. Gorgeous day for a ride, not too hot yet, no stiff crosswinds and the usual great views of nature and the woods. Spotted a young 2 point buck on the Union Hill Road switchbacks. The ride was 48 minutes burning 256 calories with an average HR of 97 bpm @ 63% of MHR and a peak of 118 bpm.

After over 6 months consisting of overtraining, recuperation, nagging back problems, and then a slow boring retrenchment, I decided to go for some singles today. Doings sets of 5 for deadlifts just wasn't appealing.

    OHP: 45-75-95-115-135-140-145-150.

Deadlift: 135-225-315-335-355. All done DOH, which I had never been able to do at 315 before. I failed on 355 the first try. My concentration broke for some reason, but then my form was all over the map. Gotta get some coaching and form correction done for that.

    Hammer Curls: 110-130-150-170.

Cybex Crunches: Sets of 8, 90-110-120.

    Stretched.

Long session of 80 minutes burning 630 calories with an average HR or 114 bpm @ 74% of MHR with a peak of 128 bpm. Altogether a satisfying bout, what with getting back over 300 lbs. in the deadlift again.

Got in a ride on my Harley. It was planned as short ride that got cut shorter when it started raining. In my past life, I dumped motorcycles twice. The first was at age 16 on a rain slick highway. Vertical to horizontal in 1 second. No injuries though. Second was on a Triumph Bonneville on a gravel fire trail in La Rue Pines. Stupid, I know. Wrong bike for the wrong place. The ride was 43 minutes long burning 337 calories with an average HR 111 bpm @ 72% of MHR and a peak of 128 bpm.

The 2017 Irish Festival with their Highland Games is coming on October 8. Gotta get details.

    More singles.

Hip Belt Squats: 135-225-315-405-455-475, PR! Beat my last single months ago by 40 lbs. I thought I could do more but got so intoxicated by success, strain, and dots before my eyes that I spazzed on plate math, never having dealt with the prospect of 5 plates a side before. That 495 was within my grasp but I got so transfixed with room left on the bar and how I could only have fit another 25 lb. plate on which would have been achievable.

CGBP: 45-95-135-155-185-205, 225. Not bad considering I hadn't done regular benches for over 6 months and my best competition bench was 242. Had a little left in the tank but didn't recruit a spotter. Next time.

    Hammer High Row: 90-180-270-320-340-360.

    Stretched.

Session ran 51 minutes burning 419 calories with an average HR of 115 bpm @ 74% of MHR and a peak of 129 HR.

    Great job with a PR,
but I dont get how you do the hip belt squat. Are there a barbell conected to the hip belt, is it the same as a dipbelt?

Thanks. Yes, there is a barbell attached to the hip belt front and back with carabiners and daisy chains. SUPER SQUATS Hip Belt

There are several ways to do this. As you can see from the link, a loading pin can also be used.

Since I'm not competing in powerlifting now, and my low back had been whacked I decided to go with these for a while. My back is feeling better now, and I am trying to see if I can get into an upcoming highland games in October. Since I don't need to worry about being judged on my squat by judges and just need to bomb my legs hard, and since Magnus Samuelsson used them, how far wrong could I be? It may violate a sacred tenet of the big SS lifts, but I can't argue with the success I've had with them.

    Weight: 269.

Last session of singles for a while.

    Push Press: 45-95-115-135-150-165-170 PR!

    High Pulls: 95-115-145-165-190-200 PR's!

Cable Rotations: 120 lbs. for 3 sets of 8.

Session was 53 minutes long burning 412 calories with an average HR of 114 bpm @ 74% of MHR with a peak of 197 bpm.

The weight increase this week puzzled and frustrated me a little since I haven't been eating more. So I got out my trusty old tape and took some measurements. I haven't done this in around 5 years figgering "what's the point?" I didn't really feel a need for more size, in fact, I'd rather lose some weight. The latter goal just seems to defeat me, I don't eat a lot anyway and usually am a little hungry trying to restrain myself. But, as it happened I got a surprise.

    Wrist: was 7 5/8" now is 7 7/8"

Arm: was 7 3/4" now is 18" plus a little

    Chest: was 54" now is 54 7/8"

    Quad: was 26 1/2" now is 27 1/4"

Amazing stuff at this late remove.

Fantastic Stuff, Mark! Those push presses oughta help tossing a caber, huh?
