Starting the New Year off right.
Drove to Stone Face and discovered the road was washed out 1/4 mile from the trailhead.

So I hiked up a 10% grade to get there. Not the warmup I had planned for this jaunt. It was 7F at 10:00 and while my nose and face were cold, the rest of me was fine. The heart rate monitor was so erratic (from the cold?) I can't report any reliable metrics from it.
While I was in the vicinity I drove over to see the Horseshoe Upheaval of rock resulting from the collision of North America to Africa millennia ago and from there to the bronze statue of Tecumseh along Glen Jones Lake.

Woke up creaky and sore like the Tin Man when Dorothy found him in the forest. My beat up right knee especially felt wobbly. The plan had been to get in some easy cardio in the Rec Center, but I had the Jujitsu class to consider tonight. So I let it go and rolled with the suckiousity.
I learned something interesting last night about Carbondale PD from a source who shall remain nameless. The self defense program taught to women by the PD was more concerned with litigation possibly ensuing from the techniques taught causing harm to an assailant than it's suitability and effectiveness in protecting the victim. Appalling.
Da Boyz tonight needed some centering and focus to help them remember their techniques. I had anticipated a lot of no-shows, but happily all but 2 made it. E. had a very nice new gi his parents bought him. Gleaming white, a heavy double weave jacket, with blue trim and SANABUL embroidery on the shoulders and seams. Not my style or something I would wear, but still. You have to admire good workmanship. E., as a blue belt, helped me polish white belt technique and I worked with his techniques interspersed between instruction of the lower ranks.
The session burned 316 calories with an average HR of 91 bpm @ 59% of MHR and a peak HR of 116 bpm.

Not just a dandy PR, but a PR times two! Woohoo!
Unfortunately, we sometimes pay for it the next day.
Way to stay after it, MEH.

Dumbbell Push Press: 25-3, 40-3, 55-3, 60-3, 65-2. I forgot my Olympic DB handle so decided to make the 5 lb. jumps and really surprised myself.
High Pulls: Sets of 3. 95-125-155-165-170-175. These were done from 18" blocks which didn't change things as much as I thought it might. I got the sparklies between sets around 155 which clouded my mind (like The Shadow heh-heh-heh-heh-heh). But this was some better work than I expected.
Hammer Curls: Sets of 5. 120-125-130. Which, while a good result, was a fuckup resulting from my clouded brain. I was supposed to to cable rotations today.
Session was 62 minutes burning 519 calories with an average HR of 120 bpm @78% of MHR and a peak HR or 189.

Upper body cardio today with rounds of arms only SciFit and rower, cable crunches, and medicine ball tosses. Concluded with stretches. The session was 41 minutes long burning 337 calories with an averge HR of 115 bpm @ 75% of MHR and a peak of 139 bpm.
This session was interspersed with a hike upstairs at the Rec Center to peek in at the relocated martial arts studio where I saw this piece of equipment. Century Focusmaster G-1000 Single Station Training System | Targets | Century Martial Arts
It's a pity the door to place was locked and available only when group activities are scheduled. I like the BoB pretty well, but it could be interesting to use. I'll have to see if I can't get access to use it.

That looks like it would be useful but seems pricey.
