Woof! The plague has visited Casa Hurling del Lago. First DB and our daughter succumbed a couple of days ago and yesterday afternoon I got it. It's not quite the wrath of God intense, but I have body aches and generalized malaise and fatigue. All I want to do is sleep. Or at least lay down. No lifting occurred today.

Supposed to lift on Friday, but that got pushed to today from the crud.

    Squats: 260 for 8 singles.

Cable Hammer Curls: 230 for 3 sets of 12.

    Bailed on reverse hyperextensions.

Glad to see you back at it after plague.
The first workout after being sick always feels like a breakthrough.

The original plan was another day of lifting to get back on schedule but I decided to do the conditioning thing instead. Speed bag, prowler, elliptical, heavy bag, rower, rolling on hamstrings and back with hamstring stretches.

Training Special Olympians Val, John, and Jereth tonight. Jereth's squat form continues to improve and he squatted well above his previous best. Val was still recovering from the weekend's softball tournament and snowshoeing practice, and she made some courageous and gallant efforts tonight. John continues to come up to his previous bests and told me about the shout out he gave to me at the local TV station. Very cool to be mentioned. He mentioned me around 40 seconds in.

Back at it again, albeit with some travail.

Bench Press: 215 for 8 singles. These were in no risk of failure, but it must be confessed, they were not easy.

Swiss Bar Lockouts: 180 for 3 sets of 4. These were even harder.

Hammer Row: 360 for 3 sets of 5. It's always a real sense of accomplishment when you can load up 4 big wheels (45 pounders) on each side and rep with them. Some measure of triumph. I suspect this is a result of my deadlift getting back up there again. Such as it is for this geezer.

Some conditioning this morning with my friend the speed bag, then 2 sets of 3 with box jumps and medicine ball tosses, rower, Scifit, and heavy bag. Finished off with foam rolling of back and hamstrings then stretches of quads and hamstrings.

Later that morning a meeting with the Rec Center folk, SIU powerlifting club, and Special Olympics Region K for planning a unified powerlifting meet with Olympians and collegiates teamed up. This could be the first such event in Special Olympics which is fitting, since the whole Special Olympics movement got birthed here locally at the Touch of Nature Center by Little Grassy Lake.
