The Powerlifting Watch rankings are in. I came in 7th internationally and across all federations. Not a couple places up as I had hoped a few months ago, but hey! Not too shabby for an old guy. Powerlifting Rankings

Well done on those rankings. But having to travel to California??? Wow.

    71 is the new 35.

    Thanks CP.

The travel was less than ideal. But next year's IPL Drug Tested Worlds will be in Brisbane, AUS. Too far, too expensive, and too chancy, given that their imperial overlords have turned the place back into a prison colony.

The IPL North American Drug Tested Championships, OTOH, will be in St. Louis. A mere 90 minute drive from Casa de Hurling, and world records can be set in that meet as well. Not a difficult decision.

My teaching of Jujitsu tonight was something of a soup sandwich. It got a late start thanks of prior commitments running uncontrollably long for Ken who warned me he would be late in advance. I appreciated the courtesy, although I told him once he did arrive that the session ran from 5:30 to 6:30 and he was only cutting into his own time to receive instruction. No animosity on my part as I delivered this, but there are some things to be observed and I am not terribly flexible about just a relative few of them. Time is one of them.

That said, we had a good session of instruction even so. It began with a review of some of the nerve centers and pressure points to strike as well as some of the strikes used. Purple 1st Degree begins to incorporate some of the Kempo that got added in to Mushin Ryu. This is evident in some of the strikes like talon and bear paw. The strikes sound like they are derived from the Chinese martial arts which in fact they are. Mushin Ryu does not channel into the rigid boundaries of almost all the other Japanese martial arts. From there, we moved on into a further review of other techniques learned earlier at the lower ranks, although with different entries and counters to the attacks delivered.

Although this was only the second time Ken had been through the techniques, he was more proficient and confident in his execution of them. I am not a big fan of rote learning, but sometimes it's the only way to get the job done. Albeit with far more detailed methods of correction than is generally done by rote and traditional teaching in Asian martial arts.
