Cycle 3, Week 3, test singles.

Deadlift: 95-5, 185-5, 255-1, 285-1, 315-1, 345-1, 365-0. I woke up today feeling creaky and sore, even my GOOD left knee hurt. Even so, I've had good sessions in spite of this stuff. The 345 went up without too much strain, but the 365 barely got unglued from the platform.

    Hammer Leg Press: 370-5, 590-1, 670-1.

Music: Locomotive Breath, Purple Haze, Radar Love, Fire on High, Thunder an Lightning, Life in the Fast Lane, Gladiator Waltz, Discombobulate.

60 minutes average HR 134 BPM @ 89% of MHR.

My foray into squats this morning had my right knee aching all day. But there was Jujitsu to teach tonight, so I pulled on one of my Inzer knee sleeves and limped on to the mat. Some of the purple belt techniques would have put my knee at risk so I skipped those and gave Ken a preview of green belt yawara short stick techniques. How to use it to wedge off the wrist and fingers of a grab to the body or clothing was one aspect. Using it against sensitive bony surfaces just under the skin like fingers, wrists, collarbones, ribs, elbows, and parts of the face and skull really hurt even when only moderate force is used. Then there are pressure points that light up entire nerve centers when activated by the hard but relatively small surface of the yawara is used on them.

It was a challenging slog through the class, but one that imparted a whole new range of knowledge.

The knee was a little better this morning, but still dicey. So I stuck to things that didn't involve bending it at the rec center. Rounds of speed bag, cable rotation, SciFit (arms only), medicine ball toss, crunch, and heavy bag.

Conditioning today was rounds of speed bag, box jumps, elliptical, supine ball toss, crunch, SciFit, and heavy bag. The Box jumps didn't bother my knee although my legs did lack a little snap.

I got a text from my Jujitsu teacher. He's been hospitalized from a heart attack since Monday and is due for a triple or quadruple bypass ASAP. He's some years younger than me and what with the losses of people who have meant something to me lately, it saddens me. My prayers are with him for a full and speedy recovery.
