I don't think the problem would be cooling off as much as its in my head. For many years I trained under the eye of Dr.Ken Liestner (someone that Rip knows we'll) his philosophy is high intensity, thinking if your working hard that's all that mattered.I am trying to change my ways.

I didn't try to get more reps on any thing.Trying to " stabilize " as Brooks Kubik wrote about.
Doing lite Squats on DL day seems to have eliminated DOMS issues.

Took my time between the press sets once I saw that I got five on the first set.
I did the pullsdowns using a pull up grip rather than a chinup grip just for a change of pace.
