I've been forced to do some ¨bull¨ work this week. My parents had a huge willow tree (one of three) in the yard with a huge split in a large limb leaning toward their garage (my gym). It was definitely ready to go anytime, so we had the whole tree taken down on Tuesday. We put a pretty good dent in the cleanup so far, but it will probably take at least a couple more weeks. My workout was going well this morning, but ended up with a twinge in my low back following my last set of good mornings, and due to the holiday weekend, may have to wait till next Tuesday to see my chiro.

I was especially happy with today's workout...I managed to self-adjust the back tweak I sustained on Friday, and despite the heat and humidity, it ended up being a great workout. I benched 196 for a good triple, and I know I haven't done that since the last time I competed, five years ago. My first two reps were very solid, but I lowered the third a little out of position, and had to grind it out, but I wasn't going to quit, and I got it!
My squats also went very well, though I was hesitant going into my work set with 254. I took my time with them, stayed tight, and they were all solid. I finished up with a great series of dips, ending with +65 lbs x 3 good reps. I'm on track for a good competition in September, that is if it truly happens this time.

I just returned from a two-day camping/hiking trip in the Adirondacks with my oldest son Chris, and his 11-year old son Reilly. Chris invited me just about two weeks ago to hike one of the 46 high peaks there. Unbeknownst to us when we started, he had chosen one of the most difficult trails of the 46. He had decided on Giant Mountain, and in my mind, the name certainly fits.

We did all reach the summit, though it took about half the day for me. This was my first real hike of the year, while my son has been hiking weekly for awhile now. Chris is a nurse and has been fighting a weight problem for some years now. This year he had a real breakthrough, and has lost 60 pounds since January...from 240 down to 180. He seems to be really committed to the program, and I´m very proud of him!

I had moved my Friday workout this week to Thursday due to the trip and it was another good workout, but following this torturous hike, I will most likely take this upcoming week off from training...I know it wouldn't hurt. Lord knows I could use the rest now.

I took most of the week off after last weekend's adventure, had my first workout back this morning. I haven't done actual deadlifts in months, so I didn't push them hard, they went pretty well nonetheless. I'm also subbing in press behind neck for awhile.

I had a very good workout this morning, still managing to keep the momentum going forward. Still racheting up the intensity slowly, with about seven weeks to go till the meet (fingers crossed). I wanted to go for a triple with 200 in the BP today, but had to settle for a solid double, pleased with that. I was also intending a triple in the SQ with 260...settled for a double with good depth. I did push the envelope a bit on my dips, once again, a solid double with an extra 70 lbs. Also threw in a little accessory work following squats, as a back-off, two sets each of leg press and leg extension.
