I tried posting again on here just a short while ago, and will try once again now. After suffering through some pretty severe arthritis last winter, and not squatting at all for about six months, I was able to work it back in at the beginning of June this year. My hope was to get back to competition again this year, and thankfully, I was successful, though not without a couple minor injuries along the way.

I planned to compete in the WNPF Can-Ams on August 28, and my training was going well up until the beginning of August. About three weeks before the meet, I had a slip-up with a 35-lb plate, smashing the tip of the middle finger of one hand between the plate and the plate tree. It was a mess for a short time, but didn't affect my lifting too much. Then, during my last deadlift workout before the meet, I suffered a mild hamstring strain with a 355 double. I iced it immediately afterward, and felt it would recover in time for the meet, though it did cause me to ease up on my final squat workout a few days later.

Come meet time, I lowered my squat attempts considerably to make sure the hamstring would hold up. I went 240, 260, and 280, all solid and deep. With that past, I decided to take just two bench press attempts, 185 and 200, both good. My first deadlift was a smooth 340, then a good second attempt with 365, and I called it a day. All of my lifts were National Records for the 198 lb, 65-69 division, and my 365 deadlift also beat the 360 State Record I did last October in Ohio.

Good to see you back. The numbers look impressive. I'm still trying to stay in some sort of shape

Good to see you're still at it too Jerry. After my meet in August, I had considered trying to compete in the World's next month in Georgia, but decided to forgo the expense and just continue with my training. I'll probably try to compete next at the NYS meet, next March. In the meantime, my current training is going great, and I'm planning to do a mock meet in about three weeks when the World's will be taking place. I'll be looking to total 900+ at that time.

Below are my last two workouts...you may notice I've gained a few pounds, but I feel good.

I've been in Vermont the last couple weeks, training at the new YMCA in Burlington. They have a pretty nice setup, two platforms included in 2 two-sided racks with Rogue bars. They also have many machines, benches, dumbbells and cardio equipment, plus walking track. The main problem is finding a good time to train, as they have many college students using the facilities. I've been trying to train there on Sundays and Thursdays, as soon as they open, and so far it's worked well enough. This morning the weight room was pretty empty, as they had the yearly Marathon going on, and I had another great workout.

I spent the past couple days at my parent's house, and worked out there this morning. I have everything I could need in their garage. I was scheduled for a heavy double in the deadlift, and also decided to push my overhead press a little. Thankfully, everything went well.

I do the DB swings the old-school way Jerry, two dumbbells between the legs and all the way overhead. I've found them to be a great warm-up move for me personally, gets the breathing going a little, and gets me ready for the work ahead...I actually enjoy them a lot.

Thanks for the reply Fifty. I used to DB cleans one side at a time with a 65lb db,about 12 reps if I remember correctly as a finisher after a WO with my son. I do remember they got me huffing and puffing. I may start doing them again
(lighter) since I've been pretty lax with any type conditioning work.

Well, I had a pretty great workout this morning at the Y. I decided to try a heavy single in the squat, with belt and knee sleeves. A few weeks ago, I was using a pair of SBD sleeves that I've had for the last few years. Unfortunately, I forgot them at the Y one day and someone walked off with them. Instead of ordering a new pair online, I decided to try a pair of Cap knee sleeves. Much cheaper, but luckily they're working fine and I like them.
