One of my friends reached out to me about the SSLP. He'd only heard of it from me and maybe one or two other people, but was intrigued. He's a former collegiate swimmer, so taking him through an intro session was pretty straightforward, and he's the smart, logical kind of person who tends to do great with SS. He competently squatted after about 10 minutes using the method described straight out of the book, and also pressed (1.0) and deadlifted with, if not minimal instruction, then very simple instruction. worked up to 95x5x3, 65x5x3, and 175x5, respectively. He's got the long arms and torso you're imagining for a swimmer, so I won't be shocked if he turns into quite the puller.
We grabbed lunch after and he asked all the good questions you'd expect someone to ask, and also this question: "So how strong do you think I'll get?" I told him that's a nuanced question, but offhand that he'll be pulling 400+ for reps in a few months. His eyes almost bugged out of his head - like, the idea of that much weight never occurred to him, let alone as something he'd be possibly doing. The grounding this method has in logic, physics, anatomy, and biology appeals to smart people, and you could just see the light turn on in his eyes as I clearly explained the why behind things. If he sticks with it and eats, he should have the kind of success we expect around here for the LP.
I'll keep y'all appraised of his progress.
This morning:
Squat 45x5x4, waiting for the lone rack. 135x5, 175x5, 205x3, 235x2, 265x5x3 - this is a new record for me. and you know what? this was way easier than the last time I tried this weight for 4 sets of 2.
Press 45x5x2, 75x5, 95x3, 115x2, 125x5x3 - moving to 2.5 pound jumps
DL 135x5, 175x5, 215x3, 255x2, 295x5 - first 3 good, 4th I didn't get set, 5th, reset and good pull. previous record at this weight: 295x2x4 sets
great start to the week!

Today:
Squat 45x5x3, 135x5, 175x5, 215x3, 245x2, 275x5x3 - never done 5 with 275, let alone 3 sets. PR
Deadlift - 135x5, 225x3, 275x1, 305x5 - PR for five.
Coaching session, obviously focused on SQ and DL. better equipment and having trained eyes on me == PRs.
Squat 45x5x4, 135x5, 185x5, 225x3, 255x1, 280x5,5, (2+1+1+1) - last set I felt a sharp pain in my left side under the belt during the second rep. I racked it, let it subside (about a minute) and just to be safe, did remaining three reps as singles with less than a minute between each.
Press 45x5x2, 85x4, 105x3, 115x2, 127.5x5,5,4. Ran out of gas this morning and ran out of time after this.
just 'meh'.
Empty Bar Squats 4x5-10
DL 135x5, 185x3, 225x2, 275x1, 315x5 I mean, they are all PRs above 285 for fahve for me, but 3 plates feels like it is worth commemorating.
Bench 45x5x2, 95x5, 135x3, 160x2, 177.5x5x3 - last set was best set. I am likely not getting enough pressing stress and skipping chins last session didn't help. sticking with this for now.
Squat 135x5, 225x5x2 - beltless, easy, ready to get out of there.
