If I'm scrolling through your log correctly, you skipped benching during November, yet are still running a PR train in the bench? Well done, J!

Here's an overview of the current state of things. Since a couple of minor injuries earlier in the year, I am still working my way back up on the deadlift and squat. I was able to press and bench through those injuries--but progress is a pound at a time. As noted, on the press, I was missing reps on 3x5, so I switched to a compressed Texas method (which I've done before), and I'm currently running out some triples, while also doing extra press days (singles and pin press). Bench is once a week, and it seems to be hanging in there. The problem with this log is that I don't post all sessions (see disclaimer in my first post!). I haven't been active on the forums lately, but I try to post here semi-regularly. I'm still hitting about 15 workouts a month usually.

    Pin press: 177x5
    DL: 395x5

Have not pulled a set of 5 full deadlift in almost two months. Been doing a lot of 80% sets (315x5), heavy triples and halting triples. Accordingly, I was pretty happy that this went well. The pin press was good too, managed to keep it mostly in the groove.

    Pin press: 178x5 (4,1)
    Block pull: 405x5

Getting better at the pin press, but didn't manage to get all five. Last rep of block pull was a little dicey. We'll see what tomorrow feels like.

Back definitely sore--couldn't initiate press. I was able to do a light squat, so I should be back on track in a day or so. Seems like I'm frequently too close to my limits. Maybe I should be aiming for a heavy deadlift single. I should think some about programming.

I think I'm also going to look back on the year and see if I can come up with some numbers (total workouts, etc.).

    BP: 220x1
    DL: 375x1

"Sub-maximal" is my current thinking. Based on my recent workouts, I probably could get a max single at 405 DL, 320 SQ and 240 BP. Workouts are aimed at a 90% single and some 80% volume. We'll see how it goes. The mental break has been positive. Overhead press continues on its own track, currently running out triples, along with singles, pin press and 5x5.

Had to press facing the mirror. Last rep was all over the place but I got it--otherwise, not bad.

    2022 in review

175 workouts overall, so consistency last year was not bad. Best deadlift (420x3) and squat (315x5x3, 335x2) sets were early in year, followed by a lot of setbacks and trying to regain lost ground. That was a little disappointing, and it is the reason for attempting to keep things more sub-maximal--we'll see how it goes. I don't feel unhappy with the year at all, as bench and press improved and the squat and deadlift were pretty much maintained, if a little stagnant. Bench went from 214 to 233 for 3x5. Press went from 153 to 164 for 3x5, with a 180 single and everything in between.

    2023 goals

For 2023, the stretch goal is probably a bodyweight press single. Bodyweight remained a bit below what "a grown man weighs" and was pretty steady all year. A 200 press might be a stretch from 181 at the moment, but we'll see.

1000-pound club shouldn't be too hard. My best 2022 lifts totaled 989 (although the bench was in December, the deadlift was in January, and the squat was in March). Might even be able to get there with all the lifts in one week!

Couldn't really do much with 182 on Tuesday for a press single attempt. In the words of one fitness guru, "The problem was, I wasn't strong enough."

Still doing a compressed Texas method on the press, so I don't think I'm facing a complete stall in the press even if I can't increase my max single at the moment.

Let's just hope that 182 is not the 2023 stretch goal, rather than 200.
