I admire your commitment. I have some questions: Do you consult with a SS coach from time to time? What are your age, weight, and height? Do you have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes?

    Keep up the good work.

Hi carson. There is no SS coach in my area (Montreal), or I surely would have. I'm not going to travel to another country, rent a hotel room, and end up paying $1000+ to learn how to squat 2-3 times. But if ever I happen to be in the same city where a coach is available, I will see one.

I've had 5 1-hours training with an olympic lifter that was also an olympic weightlifting teacher, that was maybe a decade ago. I'll tell you I get some compliments from random people including the trainers at my gym like "wow those were perfect squats", or "you go real deep". I've read both books several times. I'm not currently following the program for a few reasons.

Diabetes is Type 2. I had an abdominal echography last week, just for that. I guess some of the blood work is a bit abnormal so they want to be sure they haven't missed anything. Otherwise I'm currently off the insulin and just managing with 2 drugs (metformin and gliclazide).

I'm 5'11", current weight about 278 lbs. 39 years old, male. Started training July 6th or so this year, previous workout before that was in 2019.

    ____

    Today's workout:

    October 3rd, 2022
    Squats:
    Warmups: 5x45, 5x45, 5x45, 3x45, 2x45
    Worksets: 8x135, 8x135, 8x135, 10x135

    Overhead press:
    Warmups: 5x45, 5x45, 5x70, 3x90, 2x115
    Worksets: 2x135, 2x135, 2x135, 1x135, 2x135

    Chin-ups on lateral pull-down machine:
    Warmups: 5x40, 5x40, 5x70, 3x100, 2x140
    Worksets: 5x160, 5x160, 5x160, 5x160, 10x160 (a lot of cheating, swinging my back)

    Deadlifts
    Warmups: 5x135, 5x135, 5x160, 3x185, 2x210
    Worksets: 8x235, 8x235, 8x235

Have you looked at online coaching? Dr. Jonathon Sullivan has several online clients.

In any event, keep up the good work.

And just when I suggested the you and Sully might eventually become friends. What a shame.

Not sure why a flame war is starting in my thread.

Haven't been able to train for a couple of days because life got in the way/
    Anyway, today's workout:

    October 6th, 2022:

    Squats:
    Warmups: 5x45, 5x45, 5x110, 3x180, 2x245
    Worksets: 6x310, 6x310, 4x310

    Overhead press:
    Warmups: 5x45, 5x45, 5x65, 3x85, 2x105
    Worksets: 5x125, 5x125, 4x125

On my 3rd squat set, on the 3rd rep, I farted at the bottom. It was tiny, sounded like a shoe squeaking. Anyway, I was so embarassed, after another rep I gave up. I was afraid of it happening again, or maybe even shitting my pants. I don't think anyone noticed, because it didn't sound like what it was. But I knew.

I'm feeling like I hate the squat. It's sucks so much energy, and it's not fun or comfortable. I think I'm mostly going to replace it by more deadlift worksets, and do mostly light squats at higher volume, just for the circulation, but not the damage.

Today marks exactly 3 months since I started training, after being absent from any gym or exercise since mid-2019. While I'm sure I could have squatted more, or deadlifted more, initially, I'm not sure I could have done so safely.

I missed a whole lot of workouts, it was more like every 3rd-4th day on average probably, but overall I maintained rather steady sessions.

Here are the 3 months stats:

Squats: Started at 65 lbs -> 315 lbs (increase of 250 lbs)
Press: Started at 45 lbs -> 125 lbs (increase of 80 lbs)
    Deadlift:Started at 135 lbs -> 325 lbs (increase of 190 lbs)

Farting is part of the process. I don't know anyone who hasn't farted especially while doing squats.

Finally had another workout. I'm late on other projects, so while my next full workout is scheduled the 12th, it might get delayed, again.

Workouts take me at least a hour to recover and become productive again, sometimes more. So each workout takes really 3-4 hours out of my day. It's not insignificant.

    Anyway:

    October 10th, 2022
    Squats: 5x45, 5x45
    Just for warmup

    Press:
    warmups: 5x45, 5x45, 5x65, 3x85, 2x105
    worksets: 2x5x125, 4x125, 2x125

    Chin-up machine:
    warmups: 5x40, 5x40, 5x70, 3x100, 2x120
    worksets: 3x8x160

    Deadlifts:
    warmups: 5x135,5x135,5x185,3x235,2x285
    worksets: 6x335

Last two deadlifts really hurt some calluses on my fingers.

Workout not good not bad. Felt like I left a lot on the table, except for the press, that really drained me.

Thanks. I felt really embarrassed. First thing I do if I ever own a house is convert the basement or garage into a gym so I don't have to deal with other people.

    starting strength coach development program
I haven't trained since October 10th. Which means 16 days. Yet, my quads still hurt. They feel constantly sore. I've had good diet and sleep, but my current workload has just not allowed me to go to the gym. I have planned to go tomorrow afternoon.

What's with the pain? Is that normal? I had a pretty strong NLP before going off the program. I would have thought all pain would have gone away by now.

I have no idea how to train tomorrow.
