But she's only interested in me for my plates. Once I'm down to an empty barbell she'll just move on to the guy in the squat rack next to me with 225.

Well, maybe... but at least you emptied your barbell first...

not once she sees he's only doing quarter squats. Full depth squats are pure aphrodisiac. Theoretically.

Yesterday was a funny evening. I arrived at about 6pm, which is the exact time I usually avoid gym the most, because of TONS of people. Yesterday I had no choice. While squatting, I saw a funny couple benching. Skinny boy in tank-top and overweight girl. They spot each other. I think it's cool.
About 20 min later, I wanted to benchpress. The couple is still occupying the only bench and I notice two guys standing there watching them. I assumed they wait for the bench as well and confirmed by a question. One guy seems to be angry, told me he's waiting for "about 15 mins". I managed to make a deal with them we'll share. Then we proceeded to watch the couple doing their job.
Funny thing was, the girl actually benched better than the guy. By "better" I mean lower. There was a new, unique way of spotting involved; not by constantly rowing the bar by the spotter, but by squatting down to the others' face with straight hands. It seemed like a well-looped gif from a porn movie. The guy's ROM was barely 20 cm, at least the girl didn't have to squat low. Also a new thing to me, the guy had his legs put on a bench. I mean second bench moved to the bench bench, to make a "T" shape. I was confused, but quiet.
Well, they finished their set. Guy sat down, girl disappears. Bench is vacant, but with weight left on and a towel lying on said bench. I ask the guy how many sets do they have left. "Well, we need to switch four times more." (After at least 30 mins of "benching".) I ask him if we can work in, since nobody is working out. "Well, we are going to switch on abs and then we are going to bench again." So? "Yes, OK, but hurry, in two minutes we want to bench again."
I almost left him a thank-you note for his kindness. I chalked my hands, put his towel on the second bench I moved a meter away. I left my chalk at the feet of the bench, where I usually put it. Did my warm-up and switched. The girl kicks my chalk approaching the bench. Not like it's invisible, but not a word of apology. Guess it's my bad I left it there.
They did one more set of four planned and went away...

For the second time this week, a "floor volunteer" at the Y told me to stop dropping weights because I was disruptive to the class below.

    A.) Wasn't dropping weights

B.) Why do they do fitness classes under the free weights area? (Weight room used to be...exactly where they are now doing fitness classes - ie., first floor. They switched in January to create space in the building for a seniors-only machine room - kind of seems like they're going in a direction that isn't friendly to barbell training-types, doesn't it?)

I think I need to find a new gym.

Maybe you should take it easy and just do machines from now on, ud. That way you don't risk being kicked out of the gym.

Now an LA Fitness opened about a 1/4 mile away, and has taken all of the serious (lolz) lifters. About all that is left are the elderly and fools that are clueless.

I have no idea why the YMCA is doing this. It seems like a lot of them are still independent in mission, but don't value the idea of differentiating themselves from the marketplace. Instead they are trying to be the same.

However, even the local military gym complains about dropped weights. Last excuse I got was my deadlifts potentially triggering someone's PTSD. My response was essentially "fuck 'em".
Deadlifts triggering PTSD? sounds slightly legit

Maybe you should 'volunteer' to do the floor with him.

I've been scraping people off highways, dragging them out of fires, and scuba-diving for they dead selves for over 25 years. Can't say deadlifts bother me.
