Today I was "that guy".
One of the strongest guys at my gym - I routinely see him pull 6 plates, he incline benches 315 for reps, not sure about his squat but I bet it's ridiculous - told me to try something today and I did and it was hard.
We have GPI plates with 3 big holes in them like this: http://i.imgur.com/4zkv8qD.jpg
So he had me hang the plates from one of the big holes instead of the center hole and try to squat. 135 was tricky. Every little movement unbalanced the bar and I had to really slow down to keep it steady.
Meanwhile he's doing 225 incline bench with one plate on this way.
Anyways it was interesting but a little too strange for me. I don't like benching/squatting with chains, either, though, so maybe I'm just too set in my ways?
Was his name Paul Chek?
...So this is the new one weird trick at my gym that the trainers use.
His heels are on the crossbar of the box's base, calves wedged in there...Rest of foot completely off the ground. .I guess this suppose teach how to push thru the heels and/or activate the glutez
Re: the pic....I really like the fact I captured the trainers face at this precise moment.....So sure of herself, so knowledgeable, such concern

Inb4 someone comes up this a little apparatus for these (a small stand that locks your legs in like a sit-ups bench or a hyperextension thing) and markets it like Brent Contrares hip thrust do-hickey gizmo....
