    I have a handy rule that helps me figure out if dropping the weight is appropriate: If I drop the bar, however much weight is on it and no matter what lift I am doing, that is a noble and acceptable part of the exercise. If someone else is dropping the bar nearby, even if they are doing Oly lifts, they are narcissistic douchebags who deserve to die in a fire.

    There is (or was) a t shirt on Instagram that addresses this. It says, "Don't touch my bar" printed upside down, so it's right side up from the spotters point of view.
