    Well, then you'd have to be stronger to lift the same weight.
    The goal is to appear stronger than you are, by various tricks, like reducing the range of motion, using the springiness of fabrics, etc.

    When I see things like that paddle board bullshit I can't help thinking that people have far too much spare cash! I thought I was splashing out when I brought a weight lifting belt!
    I was asked why I haven't brought lifting straps for deadlifting, I said cos I don't need them, never used them so my grip's gotten better. He said I should use them no questions, then showed me his 'deadlift' max of 2/3rds of what mine is. Yes, he used straps for every warm up as well.

    Sigh.

    Straps are cheap and useful once you're doing more than one or two sets of pulls per week. And sure, you can make boards for less, but if I was a gym owner and I needed some boards, those are cheap enough that I'd probably just get some.

    Would you criticize Jordan for using straps even though he pulls 700+?

    starting strength coach development program



    The never-leg-day curl bros were out in force today, all wearing muscle vests and matching gloves. One even got out of his car wearing his belt and wrist wraps.

    I saw partial rep shoulder press, row-benching and screaming 60kg deadlifts.

    When I was doing my work set on deads I wiped my face with my shirt and the "head bro" said "nice abs" while laughing, to which I replied "nice gloves, did you all cycle here?".

    I like making new friends.
