Is he trying to keep his back vertical? That is a problem for most people that don't know how to squat.

Some good news for a change: saw someone squat cleaning 225lb, at a weight of maybe 160lb. Form wasn't great, and he was wearing running shoes, but that just made it more surprising. I pointed him to the local OL gym.
Picture this.
Skin tight jeans rolled up to the knees, turquoise blue silk shirt open to the navel with a black hoodie on over the top.
In a smith machine doing 1/8 squats with his feet soo far out in front of him he was basically making a 45 degree angle at the top.
Ok, I guess he was just a dumb ass.
I used to think that only idiots would use smith machines, but the old guy who works at a local gym uses the smith very regularly and he can squat 3x BW high bar properly deep. And can pretty much own any of the younger powerlifters at the gym when it comes to heavy high volume training of deadlift or squat.
He uses the smith for very high reps, sometimes in a hack squat position other times leaning back so his body is at an angle. Must be something useful about it as its clearly working for him.
It is also one of the best way to stress your knees, because with the feet in front the force pulling your knee forward, coming from the quads, is not balanced by any force pulling it backward.
That would normally be the role of the hams, but if you keep the feet forward your hams have very little to do.

I thought that the people of the internet may enjoy this a little.
